12 confirmed for BetMGM Sun Chariot Stakes

Twelve fillies & mares were confirmed for the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes on Monday morning, headed by the rapidly improving Blue Bolt.

The Blue Point filly was second to Fallen Angel in the race last season, albeit recording a career best in the process. This season, Blue Bolt is unbeaten in five starts, marking herself as one of the best fillies in Europe. Her Goodwood reappearance was backed up at Royal Ascot, taking the Duke of Cambridge Stakes. She landed her first Group 1 success when a two length winner of the Falmouth, beating Precise. She again beat Precise in the Prix Rothschild, prior to a dominant display in the Matron Stakes. Seemingly a stronger filly this season, she may take some beating in her bid to go one better.

City Of Memphis was on a similarly upward trajectory prior to her second in the Matron Stakes. That was still a career best effort, and given she was returning from a 111 day break, she’s entitled to get closer to Blue Bolt.

Last year’s winner Fallen Angel is winless in four starts since, looking a shadow of her brilliant best. She failed to stay ten furlongs again when last of four in the Middleton Stakes on her reappearance. Returned to listed company for the first time since 2023, she couldn’t land what looked a penalty kick at Haydock. Fallen Angel did return to something close to her best in the Matron, but she needs to improve once more.

Aidan O’Brien hasn’t won this since 2017 and he’s confirmed two with Precise and True Love. The former was well beaten by the latter in the 1000 Guineas on seasonal debut, following her excellent two-year-old season. Precise reversed the form with True Love in the Irish 1000 Guineas, but after her Coronation Stakes success, hasn’t kicked on as most imagined.

True Love has similarly seen her form stagnate, albeit she hasn’t been far away. She was four lengths behind Blue Bolt in the Matron, however, and she needs a big jolt of improvement.

Calendar Girl proved she’d trained on when making a winning reappearance in August in the Dick Hern Stakes. She came unstuck in the Atlanta Stakes, but she wasn’t beaten far in deteriorating ground.

The Atlanta Stakes winner Love Dynasty bids to follow up her performance, but the dry forecast isn’t ideal.

Moon Target, Kon Tiki and Secret of Life also come from that Atalanta Stakes.

Pina Sonata produced a dominant display in the Sceptre Fillies Stakes at Doncaster but she too seemingly prefers easier going than predicted.

Evolutionist completes the confirmations, and is yet to shape as if returning to the form her Prix de la Grotte success on seasonal debut.
