A Bear Affair wins Joan Snow Memorial Conditions Stakes at Salisbury

A Bear Affair made every yard of the running to land the British EBF Joan Snow Memorial Conditions Stakes at Salisbury for Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs.

Dobbs sent the 4/1 chance straight to the front in the six-furlong Class 2 contest and never relinquished the lead. Asked to go again inside the final furlong, he kept on well over the last 100 yards to beat Social Symbol by a length-and-a-half.

Social Symbol had reared at the start but travelled into contention from over two furlongs out. He pressed the leader over a furlong from home, only for A Bear Affair to find enough when it mattered. Through The Gate was a nose back in third after making his challenge under three furlongs out.

A Bear Affair makes every yard count

A Bear Affair was still in front as the field met the rising ground and, although he hung right when Dobbs asked him for his effort, he was not for passing. Social Symbol rallied again in the closing stages, but the Hannon runner had already done enough to collect the prize.

It has been a busy season for the Kodi Bear juvenile. This was his ninth race, but resulted in just a second success, and a first since his debut in the Brocklesby at Doncaster, the opening two-year-old turf race of the season. He has danced multiple dances, finishing second at Listed level in the meantime, as well as racing at Royal Ascot and the St Leger meeting.

The race was run on ground described as good to soft, changing to soft after the opening race on the card.
