Soldier’s Call gelding Adonius remained unbeaten after landing a hat-trick at Chester on Wednesday.
Adonius marked himself as an above average sort when a seven-length winner on debut at Musselburgh. He confirmed that promise when beating the Brocklesby fifth Rlasthope back at Musselburgh under a penalty next time out.
Despite carrying a penalty and easing out in the betting, Adonius jumped out well from stall one and never looked back. The well backed Wait Geordie was keen in behind and failed to land a blow, with Hickory Lad staying on well for third.
Having won in such a commanding manner, displaying plenty of speed throughout, connections can now dream of further glory. Speaking to the Press Association, via Racing TV, winning trainer Rebecca Menzies said: “I think we have to be thinking Royal Ascot now. Every assignment we have given him, he’s just over-delivered each time.
“It was hard to know what we had, but he’s so professional and so quick out of the gates. At the moment Ascot is definitely on the agenda – he’s done nothing wrong has he.
When questioned about his trip, Menzies was keen to remain at five further. She continued: “ I think he’s all speed and five furlongs is his trip. There is the National Stakes at Sandown as well we could look at. But I think the owners are really keen to go to Ascot. They’re such an enthusiastic bunch and that win today will mean the world to them.
“Fair play to them for letting me keep him. There were offers that rolled in and he could easily have had a new postcode. But they have let me roll the dice. ”
Kaiya Fraser receives plaudits after inaugural Roodee victory
Kaiya Fraser is becoming an ever increasingly apparent figure in the winners enclosure. Rebecca Menzies was quick to praise the young rider, as the pair both landed their first win at Chester.
“I’ve got so much confidence whenever I leg Kaiya up” added Menzies. Whether that is a 0-55 on a Friday night at Newcastle or a horse like this. He’s a measured rider, a clever rider and has an incredible clock in his head. We’ve always got on well since he first started riding for me as a claimer. We’ve had plenty of winners together. It’s my first winner at Chester and his as well and it’s great to do it together.”
