Amo Racing have become known for their transfer market approach to horse racing. With former football agent Kia Joorabchian in charge, perhaps that is not surprising. Their latest change has seen multiple horses removed from the care of trainer Robson Aguiar.
A Brazilian national, Aguiar was assistant trainer to Adrian Murray in Ireland. The pair combined to send out Amo Racing’s first Group 1 winner when Bucanero Fuerte won the Phoenix Stakes in 2023. Since then, Aguiar has ventured out on his own, setting up a yard in Westmeath in 2025.
Across Great Britain and Ireland, he has been responsible for 17 winners from 105 runners. Valiant Force, Dallas Star and Power Blue are among the more recognisable names he has handled so far.
Power Blue will be remaining in Aguiar’s care, but the trainer has announced that many established horses will no longer be trained with him in Ireland. Several have joined Kevin Phillipart De Foy in Newmarket. The Belgian is set to lead the way in Britain for Amo this season.
No sign of fallout between Aguiar and Joorabchian
Despite developing his reputation in racing as all-action when it comes to moving from trainer to trainer, Joorabchian denies any falling out with Aguiar. There will still be a working partnership between the pair in 2026. Aguiar is still set to train some horses who have already represented him. He is also excited about those yet to debut on the racecourse, some of whom will carry Amo’s colours.
“We’ve had some great days with Amo Racing,” Aguiar said to the Racing Post. “I wish Kia the best at Royal Ascot and for the future. Some of our best horses are still here, though. We have Edward Thatch, Immortal Guard and Power Blue. There are also a number of very good unraced fillies that we’re looking forward to running.”
Joorabchian concurred, suggesting the working relationship is in full order. Some of the moves away form Aguiar’s yard were at the request of the trainer.
“We’ve moved mares that are in foal, and they’ve gone to stud farms. We also moved three horses that Robson suggested should go to America, and we’ve moved three others, one of which is injured and is going for rehabilitation, while it was always planned for the other two to continue their careers in Britain.”
Some big races will host Amo’s silks in the near future. of particular note is Ancient Egypt, who is set to contest the Epsom Derby in June.
