Andrew Mount’s Daily Racing Preview – Catterick Racing Analysis for Tuesday 27 October

Five tracks go racing in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, with jumps action at Newcastle and Bangor-on-Dee alongside the flat at Catterick and Galway before Wolverhampton takes over under the lights. Andrew Mount focuses on the action at Catterick, with a brace of picks.

1.40 Catterick – Impressor (1pt win – 8/1 Paddy Power, 15/2 generally, those with access to Sky Bet – the only firm paying four places – might want to have 1pt e/w at their 15/2)

Impressor could only finish sixth of 14 at Redcar yesterday but that was a soldi effort from Phil Makin’s veteran as he had a poor draw in stall 9 and was ridden patiently in a race dominated by low-drawn prominent racers. He kept on well down the centre of the track and won his sole previous start when returned to the track within 24 hours.

Catterick is possibly not his track but his only run here saw him finish a respectable 10-1 fifth of ten from the worst of the draw (stall 1, on a day they came stands’ side and the winner was drawn in stall 10) and he has the soft conditions that suit. I wanted to advise him each-way but only Sky Bet are paying first four, though I will combine him in an each-way double with my other selection – Miraculous in the 2.40 (see below).

2.40 Catterick – Miraculous (2pt win – 9/2 generally)

Miraculous was given a good ride from a poor draw to finish a 40-1 sixth of 12 in a 5f Class 2 handicap here On October 17th and looks set to go well. It paid to be prominent and drawn low in that valuable Saturday contest, with the first three drawn in stalls 4, 1 and 2 and described by the Racing Post as “prominent, ridden to lead 1f out”, “soon led” and “pressed leader”.

Fourth-placed Vintage Clarets, ridden patiently from stall 12, was the obvious eyecatcher that day though Miraculous was only a length bend him in sixth place from stall 10, having switched to the inside rail soon after the start. Today, he returns to his optimum 6f trip and drops down to Class 4 level.

Tim Easterby’s four-year-old also has his preferred smallish field and his record in fields of 11 or fewer runners, in Class 4 ort lower company and after a recent outing (21 days or sooner) stands at 41351241 (3-8). With front-runners in stalls 1, 2, 3 and 7 this eight-runner contest should be run to suit. Back him to win and also have an each-way double with Impressor in the 1.40.
