Call Time clearly needs it on the slow side and last Monday’s Ffos Las win took his record on officially soft or heavy going to 3622121236371 (3-13), as compared to 0725056240635 (0-13) on good to soft/faster turf or an all-weather surface. His slow-ground figures improve to 361123631 (3-9) in September/October and he’s going to be desperately hard to beat from his stands’ side draw in this weak 5f handicap.
Curragh Racing Tips (Sunday 27 September 2026)
4.20 Curragh – Valiancy (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 Hills, 11/1 bet365)
It paid to be close to the front end in the 2m4.5f handicap at Glorious Goodwood, started by stalls rather than flag for the first time. Winning 11-4 favourite Defiantly pressed the early leader before taking up the running half a mile out and came home three lengths clear of 28-1 chance Berkshire Sundance (“in touch with leaders”). The William Haggas-trained Valiancy (“held up in midfield”) was too far back under James Doyle and the 3-1 second favourite could be forgiven his ninth place. Since the beginning of 2018, his trainer is 16 from 56 with his runners in Ireland for a profit of £25.58 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£41.91 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 11.54, A/E = 1.39) and he’s worth a small each-way interest in the Irish Cesarewitch.
