3.29 Hamilton – Lir Speciale (1pt win – 12/1 bet365, 11/1 general)
Lir Speciale tends to come good in the autumn, landing four of his 11 starts in the September to November period for a profit of £10.25 at SP (+£13.49 at Betfair SP after 2% commission), and I like the booking of Jason Hart for Brian Ellison’s seven-year-old. Hart is adept at getting one out of the stalls quickly and, in a race lacking obviously pace angles, I expect him to race prominently. It’s possible that he’s being prepped for a return to 7f at Doncaster – the course and distance of his last two wins – but he’s worth chancing at a double-figure price.
5.13 Hamilton – Hickton (1pt win – 8/1 generally)
This 1m4f Class 6 handicap is complicated by the presence of Joseph O’Brien’s Sunnysideofthestreet, the current 2-1 favourite, who is running in a handicap for the first time. However, O’Brien has won just twice with 56 handicap debutants in Britian and one of those was Enceladus who was incredibly well handicapped off 89 (now rated 113 after his St leger second).
I did consider Uncle Liam who will appreciate track/ground, but this front-runner faces competition for the early lead from Hansteen, but the better bet could be Hickton. Declan Carroll’s four-year-old tends to come good at this time of year, recording form figures for his current yard in September/October of 7313133 (2-7) and will enjoy the likely strong pace. I’ve gone win only as most firms are paying only three places but if you have access to Sky Bet the 15-2 four places is a good option.
