Five tracks go racing in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with the Listed Robin Hood Stakes the feature on the flat at Nottingham and jumps action at Huntingdon and Newton Abbot, while Dundalk and Kempton provide the all-weather action. Andrew Mount has horses to watch at both Huntingdon and Dundalk, taking a pair of runners out of two races.
2.06 Huntingdon – Bella Civena (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, Hills)
That’s Nice heads the betting at around 11-4 for this 3m1f mares’ handicap hurdle but Nicky Henderson’s six-year-old often jumps out to her left and could be vulnerable now switched to a right-handed venue after last month’s disappointing effort at Worcester.
The winner of three of her ten starts on left-handed tracs, beating 41.27% of her rivals, she has a seventh and a pulled up from two starts in today’s direction, beating only 12.5% of her opponents. With main market rival Porter In The Park ridden by Cameron Johnstone-Baker (just two winners outside of conditional/amateur company) the bet is Henry Daly’s Bella Civena.
The seven-year-old was a winner on her racecourse debut at Market Rasen for Harry Derham in March 2023 and made a winning start for her current yard at Uttoxeter last September on the back of a 505-day absence. She hasn’t been seen since but is clearly capable of running well when fresh.
2.30 Dundalk – Moyassr (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, 5/1 generally)
One of the biggest surprises of the Flat season so far was Moyassr breaking his turf duck at Fairyhouse in late May, as he has a vastly superior record on Dundalk’s Polytrack (four wins from nine starts as opposed to just one from 22 on the green stuff).
The Ado McGuines-trained five-year-old confirmed his wellbeing with a nose defeat at Laytown last month and has since run with credit on turf, finishing second of 18 at Fairyhouse and sixth of 14 at Bellewstown. He returns to his happy hunting ground off an 8lb lower mark than when fifth of 13 in a 13,000euros to the winner 1m handicap in February and this will be his first Dundalk start for his current yard.
