My tracker note for Dinah Myte simply says “Sixties Icon, needs mud” and John Gallegher’s four-year-old faces her ideal conditions at Leicester today. She was never involved from off the pace when a 40-1 seventh of nine at Kempton 12 days ago and will appreciate the return to turf, especially since her sole Leicester start resulted in a wide-margin win over this trip last autumn. The big field will assist her patient running style, as will the forecast strong headwind in the home straight.
7.45 Kempton – Tie Fighter (1pt win – 20/1 bet365, 16/1 William Hill)
Tie Fighter was poorly campaigned and underachieved when trained by Ed Dunlop and, though beaten on his first two runs for Simon Dow, I expect him to be winning sooner rather than later. It’s possible that he’s being teed up for a ‘Christmas gamble’ at Lingfield but there’s was plenty to like about his stable debut when a 20-1 fifth of eight in a 7f Class Lingfield handicap, doing best of the closers and looking as though the trip stretched him.
His subsequent 16-1 sixth over the same course and distance has seen him drop to a handicap mark of 58, 16lb lower than his peak mark for Dunlop and the return to 6f should suit. His latest all-weather run over this trip saw him run fourth off an 8lb higher mark at Wolverhampton in mid-June and I’m happy to take a chance at a big price.
