Pretty Wild was a big eyecatcher when a 100-1 fifth of 15 in a Ballinrobe maiden hurdle on July 21st, keeping on under very tender handling to finish just over 13 lengths behind the winner. Her subsequent seven-length third under conditional rider Joshua Halford looked a case of getting a mark and I’m expecting considerable improvement now that she goes handicapping with Harry Cobden in the saddle for the first time. Enda Bolger’s four-year-old, rated just 95 today, also looks likely to appreciate the step up to 2m6f.

7.45 Newcastle – Frankies Dream (2pt win – 2/1 general)
Frankies Dream is best late off a strong pace and runs especially well on Newcastle’s straight course. The Jennie Candlish-trained four-year-old has drawn a blank in eight starts on turf this year but has run well on occasions, including when a two-length fourth to Andesite in a 7f Class 4 handicap at Thirsk last time where never able to strike a serious blow after a slow start. He earned a solid Proform speed figure for that effort, and the form has been boosted by the winner, who followed up at Chester and the third Good Karma, who finished a close third at Pontefract on his next outing. Surprisingly, he’s been dropped 2lb by the handicapper for that run to a mark of 75, allowing him to get into tonight’s Class 5 contest. His record in handicaps at Newcastle stands at 21122 (2-5), with the defeats by three-quarters of a length, a short head and a head. Those runs all took place in sprints, but he’s suited by longer trips nowadays and, with two front-runners in opposition and the wind (albeit not a strong one) into their faces, the race should be run to suit.
