Andrew Mount’s Daily Racing Preview – Naas & Goodwood Racing Analysis for Sunday 11 October

Goodwood and Chepstow race in Britain on Sunday, while Naas hosts the action in Ireland. Andrew Mount has horses to watch at both Naas and Chepstow, taking a pair of runners out of two races.

3.05 Naas – Bay Colony (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 generally)

This 1m Listed contest often goes to a relatively fresh horse, with six of the last ten winners arriving here on the back of just one run in the last three months. Backing all 22 qualifiers would have returned a profit of £19.25 to a £1 level stake at SP. Bay Colony is one of two qualifiers this year – the other is Joseph O’Brien’s Qualixia but her trainer is 0-20 in this race and we have to go back to 2016 to find the last non-three-year-old winner – and Fozzy Stack’s three-year-old is taken to cause an upset.

The New Bay filly, campaigned at up to 1m6f, ran a cracking race dropped to 1m in Listed company at Listowel last time, doing best of the closers in a 33-1 fourth of 11 on her first start since May and could sneak into the frame again.

4.42 Goodwood – Storming Point (1pt e/w – 15/2 generally)

I liked two horses in the paddock ahead of the Sky Bet Mile Heritage Handicap at York’s Ebor meeting – runner-up Eklleem Fifth-placed Storming Point, who both did well to finish so close under hold-up rides from wide positions when it paid to race prominently.

The last-named, also hampered in the early stages, was generously dropped 1lb by the handicapper for that effort and looks a major player in this weaker contest on ground he likes. Gary and Josh Moore’s three-year-old colt remains a maiden after six starts but has laced on four occasions and can reward each-way support, despite the concern about the possible lack of a strong early gallop.
