Andrew Mount’s Daily Racing Preview – Plumpton & Wolverhampton Racing Analysis for Monday 2 November

Plumpton, Southwell, Chelmsford and Wolverhampton race in Britain on Monday, with jumps action at Plumpton and Southwell before Chelmsford and Wolverhampton take over under the lights.

Andrew Mount has horses to watch at both Plumpton and Wolverhampton, including one in the final race of the day.

3.00 Plumpton – Jubilant (1pt win – 2/1 bet365, Hills)

I was tempted by Alien Storm in this five-runner 3m1.5f handicap chase, as he’s won four from 11 in fields of seven or fewer runners and is four from nine at this venue. However, his record over 2m5f or further stands at 062F9 (0-5) and he’s not sure to stay. That said, I’ll still probably use him as a saver and/or a forecast option with main bet Jubilant, who has drifted to a backable price. In-form James Owen’s seven-year-old has form figures over fences in fields of five or fewer runners of 111 (3-3) and will be happier back in chase company after his third of five in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter last time. That run might have been needed after 131 days off the track and he’s two from two here without headgear (one chase, one hurdle).

15:00 Kalm Club Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

8.30 Wolverhampton – My Mate Kev (0.5pt e/w – 11/2 bet365, Hills, both four places)

This 5f Class 6 handicap looks the most intriguing race of the day, as front-runners A Lott Of Kane and Macarone, separated by a neck over course and distance last time, do battle again. The winner broke smartly from stall 13 that day, making most, and has the same stall tonight. The presence of another pace angle – the Billy Loughnane-ridden March Of Time in stall 12 – and the obvious play is to back My Mate Kev, who is likely to be just behind the pacesetters in fourth or fifth in the early stages. Chris Dwyer’s four-year-old has raced here twice before, finishing fourth to A Lott Of Kane when the winner got loose on the lead and a half-length third to Macarone and A Lott Of Kane on his penultimate start. He did too much too soon in the mud at Newmarket last time and will be happier back at this venue.
