The Tim Easterby-trained Albegone usually peaks in spring/autumn and has won just two of his 33 starts in during high summer (June to August), with both victories in late August (August 21st 2024, and August 25th this year). His turf score in the spring (March to May) or Autumn (September to November) after a recent outing (42 days or sooner) and when running in a field of ten or fewer runners stands at 3116142111241341285 (8-19) for a profit of £23.58 at SP. The yard’s runners often fail to back up a good effort and if we only consider the runs when he finished fourth or worse on his latest start his record under these conditions becomes 1121111285 (7-11) for a profit of £29.08. He’s been beaten in fields of 12 and 13 runners since accounted for his five rivals at Musselburgh in late August and looks set to run a big race in this 5f handicap. I’ll also play him in a reversed forecast with Jojo Rabbit, who could prove dangerous if getting loose on the lead from stall 1.

The Harry Charlton yard (including runs for Roger Charlton, his father) has done exceptionally well when fitting a turf handicapper with first-time cheekpieces, scoring with 16 of the 61 qualifiers (26.2% strike-rate) for a profit of £66.28 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£99.26 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 10.07, A/E = 1.59) and the four qualifiers so far in 2026 finished as follows…

The son of Ghaiyyath will appreciate the unseasonably quick ground and is likely to be prominent in a race lacking an obvious front-runner.
