Andrew Mount’s Daily Racing Preview – Punchestown & Ffos Las Racing Analysis for Thursday 29 October

Bath, Ffos Las, Stratford and Southwell race in Britain on Thursday, with the flat at Bath and jumps action at Ffos Las and Stratford before Southwell takes over under the lights. Andrew Mount has three tips for the action on 29 October, as he heads to Punchestown and Ffos Las for his best bets.

2.05 Punchestown – Nonsense (2pt win, 7/4 generally)

Nonsense out-ran his 33-1 starting price on his debut at the Curragh earlier this month, staying on from midfield to chase home Aidan O’Brien’s 30-100 favourite Hamas Perth by a length and three-quarters. John O’Donoghue’s gelding pulled the same distance clear of third-placed Wo Wo Never, who has run well in defeat subsequently.

The positive visual impression was backed up by the clock and, while he’s not a huge price this time, he still looks good value as Dawnmore, who has looked far from resolute at the business end of his races, is trading at around 5-1.

14:05 Win A Trip To Lapland At Punchestown On Sun 22 November Maiden

3.05 Punchestown – Spacebound (1pt win – 15/8 bet365, 6-4 generally)

Nine of the first ten finishers in the 1m apprentice handicap at the Curragh on October 4th came from midfield or further back, with the 5-2 joint-favourite Spacebound (“led narrowly or disputed lead”) the exception in fourth place.

Daniel McLoughlin’s four-year-old had more than 12 lengths to spare over Flanker Jet, the other one who disputed the early pace, and it was a solid effort in the circumstances. The son of Harry Angel remains a maiden, but that was only his fifth start and he looks likely to get a relatively soft time of things on the front end now back in maiden company.

15:05 Premiere Weekend Two-Day Ticket Just 35 Euros Maiden

4.30 Ffos Las – Filanderer (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 generally)

Filanderer is best when fresh and has form figures over fences when rested for at least six weeks of 5U11111P (5-8), with the latest non-completion at last season’s Cheltenham festival when a 501- shot (Betfair SP 88.05). Hughie Morrison’s veteran has been off the track since his respectable Haydock fifth in early April and Sean Bowen is back on board for the first time since his course win in April 2025.

Bowen has a fantastic record over fences at Ffos Las, scoring on 52 of his 184 rides (28.3% strike-rate) for a profit of £84.49 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£139.13 at Betfair SP). I’ve saved on Just Over Land who also has a good record when fresh.
