Ripon Racing Tips (Saturday 26 September 2026)
2.49 Ripon – Our Absent Friends (1pt win – 9/1 bet365)
Our Absent Friends has a terrible record (0-9) immediately following a win and he also peaks in the second half of the season (July onwards). When running in handicaps form 1st July, after a recent-ish run (within eight weeks) and on the back of a defeat he’s won eight of his 29 starts for a profit of £71.25 at SP. He has ideal conditions today and, importantly, he looks likely to get a relatively easy lead in this 5f handicap.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Saturday 26 September 2026)
3.40 Newmarket – Alcarath (1pt e/w – 16/1 Coral, Ladbrokes, BetVictor) & Ezrindjan (1pt e/w – 9/1 Hills)
I covered this race in more detail in GG’s Weekend Watch (YouTube/Podcast) and I’m still very keen on Alan King’s Alcarath (stall 1 of 28), who is drawn, especially as the pace horses are drawn low. The big field will suit this some-times-keen sort, and the first-time cheekpieces cheekpieces could help. Ryan has only ridden six runners in this headgear for king and three won, including at 22-1.
I also want to back Erzindjan, drawn on the other side of the track in stall 25. They started exploring the stands’ side in the 4.10 here yesterday and it’s not impossible that the majority come across. This is what I wrote after tipping him for this race 12 months ago…
“I advised Erzindjan (stall 23 of 23) as an each-way bet in my GG.co.uk column and while, pre-race, I’d have settled for his 28-1 fourth in the bet365 Cambridgeshire, it was gutting to see him ‘win’ the race on the unfavoured stands’ side by almost five lengths only to lose out to three of the low-drawn runners who raced far side. Terry Kent’s seven-year-old can expected to go up a couple of pounds for this run but will still be well ahead of the handicapper on the form of this run and his best-of-the-closers 80-1 fourth of 18 in the John Smith’s Cup at York on July’s stable debut.”
8.30 Southwell – Ormolulu (1pt win – 9/2 bet365)
Hold-up performer Ormolulu is most effective given a strong pace/big field scenario and, while the presence of pacesetters Persian Spirit and Maldevious assisted her cause in the 6f fillies’ handicap at Newcastle on September 5th, the seven-runner line-up wasn’t ideal and she had to settle for a half-length second to Lady Kodiac (“prominent, ridden to lead over 1f out”). Gemma Tutty’s six-year-old will appreciate the return to Southwell tonight where her record over this 6f trip reads 21633111271263 (5-14) to a £1 level stake at SP. Unusually for a mare, she performs best against the boys as they tend to go faster up front in open company, and that latest effort took her record against her own sex to 7552732 (0-7). She’s back in open company tonight, in a maximum field of 14 runners.
