Andrew Mount looks to kick off the week on a positive note and he heads to Roscommon for his best bets on Monday 12th October. Check out his best bets for the action at the Irish track here.
2.00 Roscommon – Earls (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 bet365, 12/1 generally)
Earls, trained by in-form Gavin Cromwell, has won just once from 31 starts in the March to July period but tends to come alive form August onwards, landing nine of his 37 starts, improving to nine from 32 on turf for a profit of £13.20 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£19.92 at Betfair SP after 2% commission).
Five of the wins came on ground judged to be soft or heavy by Proform. The eight-year-old has a three from seven record at Roscommon during his peak period and though only sixth in this race last season, he was left with far too much to do under a 7lb apprentice jockey and is 10lb lower today.
3.00 Roscommon – Brains (0.5pt e/w – 6/1 bet365, 5/1 generally)
The first four home in the 7f 0-60 handicap at Leopardstown on August 6th were described as “midfield”, “towards rear”, “midfield” and “midfield”, while the sixth and seventh were also ridden patiently. It was the run of one-length fifth home Brains (“led, headed but prominent after 1f, led again over 1f out”) that caught the eye, beating the next prominent racer by two and a half lengths.
The veteran has been running well in defeat since that effort, and he did especially well to place in a 19-runner handicap at Cork last time where the 6f trip was on the short side.
