Six tracks go racing in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with the Listed Beckford Stakes at Bath among the highlights and Thurles and Tramore flying the flag across the Irish Sea.

3.01 Thurles – Queen Aethelflaed (1pt win – 15/2 bet365, 7/1 generally)
Queen Aethelflaed landed this 1m handicap last year on her debut for Andrew Slattery when sneaking up the inside rail from her stall 1 of 14 draw. She added a 1m Gowran Park win in June when making all on the inside rail from stall 5 and though only ninth at the same venue last time she did far too much too soon in a race set up for the closers and didn’t last home over the 1m1.5f trip on soft going. Today’s shorter trip and quicker ground will help, and she’s well drawn in stall 5 to stalk likely pacesetter Duchess Anne (stall 1).
3.30 Ayr – Eye Of Dubai (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 Hills)
Ayr Bronze Cup winner Eye Of Dubai has form figures on turf in the September to November period of 2213315315218 (4-13) for a profit of £11.50 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£18.73 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). John and Sean Quinn’s five-year-old has a 0-5 record immediately following a win and I’m inclined to forgive his Ripon defeat last time out, especially as he raced prominently in a race set up for the closers and met trouble on the rail. The return to Ayr and drop in class will suit.
7.30 Southwell – Ernie’s Valentine (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, 9/2 Hills)
Ernie’s Valentine was well drawn in stall 7 of 12 over course and distance last time but 7lb claimer Alexandra Egan had a bit of a shocker and rather than migrate to the favoured stands’ side rail in the straight like the winner Glaiadora, she challenged down the centre after taking the ‘dead’ rail route in the early stages. That form has been advertised by the fifth (beaten a neck next time out) and the sixth (winner next time out) and stall 12 should ensure than Egan manages to avoid the inside rail ‘swamp’ this time around.
