Andrew Mount's Horse Racing Tips - Cheltenham Festival Day 2, Wednesday, 11th March

A hugely competitive day’s racing takes place on day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday 11 March. Andrew Mount has delved through the form guides for Wednesday and has picked out his best bets for the day.

Check out Andrew’s Cheltenham Festival Day 2 tips below, which includes a brace of picks in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase and a 66/1 outsider in the Champion Bumper.

Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Tips (Wednesday 11 March 2026)

Seven stunning races light up Cheltenham on Wednesday, with a 1.20pm start. Check out Andrew’s top tips for the action on day 2 of the festival.

2.00 Cheltenham – Oscars Brother (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 generally, four places) and Wendigo (0.5pt e/w – 9/1 Coral, Ladbrokes, four places)

Oscars Brother needed the experience on his hurdles and chase debuts but, aside from those runs, his record over 2m6f or further, in reverse order, looks like this…

1st

2nd by a neck

3rd

3rd (beaten by a head)

Fell

1st

1st

1st

Softer going would be preferable, but he has plenty of form on good and good/yielding going and he’s worth a small each-way interest.

I also want to side with Jamie Snowden’s Wendigo who would have needed the experience when a head second to Wade Out on his chase debut at Worcester in October. He took a big step forward when landing a Grade 2 at Newbury last time, form that was franked by runner-up No Questions Asked who won the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Chase at Ascot last month. The seven-year-old tasted defeat in the Grade 1 Kauto Star at Kempton but didn’t enjoy the right-handed track, doing really well to keep on for third (beaten less than four lengths) after jumping out to his left and becoming outpaced. He bolted up at Ayr last time, albeit at prohibitive odds, and last year’s Albert Bartlett fifth looks set to run another big race.

14:00 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (Registered As The Broadway Novices’ Chase) (GBB Race)

2.40 Cheltenham – The Yellow Clay (0.5pt e/w – 8/1 generally, sky bet paying seven places) and Ballyadam (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 generally)

The Yellow Clay was only three-quarters of a length behind The New Lion when runner-up in the Turners over track and trip last season and had Final Demand back in third that day. Gordon Elliott’s seven-year-old has struggled since but he makes his handicap debut off a workable mark, the first-time cheekpieces could help and the excellent Michael Keneally takes 5lb off the top weight. He’s a good trends-fit for this race, qualifying on two key angles – top six in the weights and won or placed at a previous Cheltenham festival.

Ballyadam has run well at the last five Cheltenham festivals…

2nd to Appreciate It in 2021 Supreme (6-1)

5th of 26 to State Man in 2022 County Hurdle (50-1)

5th (12-1) in 2023 County hurdle

2nd to handicap blot Langer Dan in 2024 Coral Cup (13-2 from 16-1, advised e/w in my column)

3rd (16-1 third) to Jimmy Du Seuil in 2025 Coral Cup.

…he ran with credit on the all-weather last month and is also worth a punt.

14:40 BetMGM Cup Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)

5.20 Cheltenham – Chicker (0.5pt e/w 66/1 generally, Sky Bet paying five places)

Backing a British-trained runner in the Champion Bumper perhaps isn’t the greatest putting angle but I can’t resist a small interest on Fergal O’Brien’s Chicker, who will enjoy the good ground and could sneak into the frame. The five-year-old arrived late to score at Worcester and over course and distance in his first two starts, both on good going, before soft ground and a prominent ride resulted in a backwards step here at the November meeting. I’m expecting Jonathan Burke to hold on to him this time and the tempo of the race should suit.

17:20 Weatherbys Champion Bumper (In Memory Of Sir Johnny Weatherby) (A Standard Open NH Flat Race) (GBB)
