Andrew Mount attempts to head into Cheltenham Festival week in fine tipping form and he has three selections running on Saturday 7 March.
A brace of selections over the sticks at Ayr and Hereford, while he also has a solitary pick at Wolverhampton’s classy all-weather card.
Ayr Racing Tips (Saturday 7 March 2026)
Seven races take place at Ayr over the sticks and Andrew’s sole selection runs in the 2.07pm contest.
2.07 Ayr – Don Occhetti (1pt win – 33/1 bet365)
Don Occhetti out-ran his 80-1 Starting Price (Betfair SP of 125.85) to finish a 16-length third of six of course and distance last month – his first run over fences since scoring by seven lengths on good ground at Worcester last August for Dan Skelton – and was in the process of running another respectable race when falling (40-1) over 2m4f here 13 days later. His stable scored 14 times with Ardera Cross, another ex-Skelton in-mate, in these colours and the eight-year-old looks capable of picking up a race of this nature. We might not see the best of him until he encounters better ground but the first-time cheekpieces could help and he’s worth chancing.
Hereford Racing Tips (Saturday 7 March 2026)
Seven races get under way at Hereford at 1.42pm, with Andrew’s best bet on the card running in the 2.12pm event.
2.12 Hereford – Below The Belt (1pt win – 14/1 bet365)
Max Comley does well in hurdle races at the first time of asking with horses that he takes over from other trainers, scoring with four of the 19 qualifiers for a profit of £6.50 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£11.12 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). Four of those started at single-figure odds (15-2, 15-2, 4-1 and 5-2) and they all won. Below The Belt, a switcher from the Richard Bandey yard, took a step forward when a 28-1 third in a Polytrack bumper at Lingfield last time, finishing just over five lengths behind Wilde’s Legacy (winner again since) despite racing in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail. He looks worth a bet on his debut over hurdles.
Wolverhampton Racing Tips (Saturday 7 March 2026)
There’s some quality Listed action at Wolverhampton and Andrew has a 1.5pt selection in the Lady Wulfruna Stakes.
3.15 Wolverhampton – Prince Of India (1.5pt win – 7/1 bet365, Ladbrokes, Coral)
In-form Marco Botti has a cracking record when switching one of his turf runners to the Tapeta surfaces at Wolverhampton or Newcastle, scoring with 72 of the 33 qualifiers (21.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £94.05 to a £1 level stake at SO (+£165.71 at BSP after commission). The expected number of winners based on their odds was only 50.75 (A/E = 1.42). Prince Of India qualifies in the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes and the four-year-old went into my tracker after his beaten-favourite effort in a 6f handicap at Ascot on October 4th when we last saw him. He got into all sorts of trouble under Jamie Spencer that day and is best judged on his other runs in a tongue-tie of 1212113 (4-7. Three of those runs took place over today’s 7f trip on the all-weather and they returned form figures of 121 (2-3), with the defeat by a head.
