We are set for a hugely competitive renewal of the 2024 bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park this Saturday and it will see reigning champion Kitty’s Light line up for Christian Williams. Last year’s hero is one of the bet365 Gold Cup favourites for the 3m 4f 146y contest, but we assess all the market leaders for what should be a cracking contest.

Kitty’s Light – Christian Williams
An impressive two-and-a-half length winner of the bet365 Gold Cup last season, KITTY’S LIGHT is back to try and emulate Topsham Bay by winning back-to-back renewals of the race and the current race favourite lines up off a 5lbs higher mark in the 2024 edition.
He won last year’s contest a week after he won the Scottish Grand National at Ayr, but this year the Christian Williams team opted to send him to Aintree for the Grand National. A fine fifth in that race, Kitty’s Light is entitled to be well fancied for this event and he has to be the one to beat.

bet365 Gold Cup Runners – Full 20 Declared as Kitty’s Light to Fend Off Mullins Quartet
The bet365 Gold Cup, the feature handicap on the final day of the British jumps season, has seen 28 runners confirmed at the five day stage. They are headlined by four entries for British champion trainer elect Willie Mullins, as he seeks to consolidate his position as the top handler this side of the Irish…
Thu 25 Apr 2024Nick Rockett – Willie Mullins
Willie Mullins continues his quest to be crowned champion trainer in the UK for the first time and if he can land the bet365 Gold Cup on Saturday then he’s assured the title at Sandown Park. The master of Closutton will unleash the classy novice NICK ROCKETT, who was last seen finishing seventh in the Irish Grand National, when sent off favourite for that race.
The seven-year-old is sure to benefit for the experience of the Fairyhouse event, but he will need to show significant improvement to land this prize, but Mullins showed last week when saddling Macdermott to Scottish Grand National glory that he can’t be ignored in any race and Nick Rockett is one of the leading favourites this weekend.

Threeunderthrufive – Paul Nicholls
Paul Nicholls has a mountain to climb in the trainers’ championship, but the Ditcheat handler does have a lively contender in the shape of the top-weighted THREEUNDERTHRUFIVE, who is available at single figured odds for the bet365 Gold Cup this weekend.
The nine-year-old ended a pretty long losing run last time at Ascot in the Swinley Handicap Chase back in February, but he’s been hit by a 4lbs rise by the handicapper for that success, so will need to improve. However, he’s often shown stamina is his strongest suit and with that confidence-boosting win sure to have an effect and then he’s another favourite to keep an eye on.

Matthew Sutcliffe’s Value Punts – Tips for the Final Day of the Jumps Season
The National Hunt season draws to a close at Sandown on Saturday. Keen to make the value count for one more time over jumps, Matty Sutcliffe has four selections for the day. Published: 1.45pm Wednesday, 24th April (Odds correct at time of publishing) 1:50 Sandown – bet365 Novices’ Championship Final Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class…
Wed 24 Apr 2024Le Milos – Dan Skelton
The third and final contender for the trainers’ title is Dan Skelton and like Nicholls he will need to win this to stand any chance whatsoever and he will be saddling the classy LE MILOS, who has some big race success already on his CV and is bidding to add more.
A winner of the 2022 Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury off a 3lbs lower mark, Le Milos was last seen finishing down the field in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival, so a switch back to chasing here could bring around some improvement and he’s another prominent in the betting.
