Fri 31 May 2024As is always the case with the Derby, the Ballydoyle team will unleash a strong squad and while City Of Troy is the ‘talking horse’ of the race, Los Angeles comes into the race on the back of a taking win in the Group 3 Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown and that O’Brien charge is the current second favourite, as he looks to make it four wins from four runs.
Ambiente Friendly will be one of the premier shots fired by the British training gun and James Fanshawe’s emphatic Lingfield Derby Trial is around a 6/1 shot with the bookmakers as he looks to continue on an upward curve. Charlie Appleby’s Ancient Wisdom is around the same price at 5/1 and he is looking to kick on from defeat in the Dante Stakes at York earlier this month, where he was trounced by Economics, who doesn’t line up.
Roger Fell is bidding for a first Derby success at Epsom and he will saddle Dancing Gemini, who is the next in the betting around the 12/1 mark, while the likes of Macduff and Deira Mile are another pair that are available at double-figured odds and add more depth to a race that is awash with intrigue.
