Race 1 (12:33pm) HILLCREST
Strong start to career last season, placing second on debut at Doncaster back in January, before stepping up and taking the win at Wetherby (2m good to soft) in a bumper contest, back in March. The interesting thing was he found plenty in the tank to get ahead and take the spoils here, despite looking quite green, but that raw talent, if tamed here, will be something to behold.
Race 2 (1:08pm) ACT OF GOD
Edward O’Grady runner, ACT OF GOD, comes in to this contest with two wins in the last three starts, including last time out at Gowran Park (1m 5f, soft to heavy). Prior to that, he picked up arguably his best result, when taking the spoils over 2m 4f in the Mullacurry Cup Handicap Hurdle at Bellewstown in August, This extended 3m trip won’t be a problem, whilst conditions will suit him.
Race 3 (1:40pm) YOUR DARLING
He comes into this contest, in fine form, having added to the victory at Huntingdon (1m 7f, good) in March, with a victory on return from a break, to take the spoils at the same venue, this time over 2m 3f (good), when 3.75 lengths clear of Do Ya Wanna Know on chasing debut. The rise in class could be an issue, but Ben Pauling’s runner should have more to come and could produce another strong result.
Race 4 (2:15pm) HOGANS HEIGHT
Without a win in nearly two years, but the last of those victories did come in this very race, two years ago, when winning by 16 lengths. Although he hasn’t hit the heights of that result since, a fourth at Newton Abbot last time out over hurdles offers hopes of further improvement. Page Fuller continues onboard from that run and can spark a revival over a course he knows well.
Race 5 (2:50pm) GOLDEN WHISKY
Three wins in eighteen career starts and had been in strong form over the early part of this year, winning at Ludlow (2m 4f, heavy), back in January, before a third and second in subsequent runs after. Comes in just 2lbs higher and will relish the drop back in trip here. One to consider, assuming he is fit and raring to go
Race 6 (3:20pm) SUMMERVILLE BOY
Looking to replicate the form that saw him take the victory here in last years edition, when beating favourite Ch’tibello by half a length. He ended the season with a bit of a lull in form, but he does usually go well fresh and has plenty in the tank to win this contest once again, especially with the weights very much in his favour.
