Race 1 (1:15pm) SCARFACE
Decent performances in the opening couple of starts, before stepping up to Listed company and finding that a little too hot, when tenth of twelve, here in a bumper contest over 1m 7f in December. He retuned from a short break to make his hurdling debut last month, placing second at Exeter (2m, good to soft), finishing 3.75 lengths behind Serious Charges, who has since added to that win tally. More to come off the back of that run and this extended 2m 3f trip is likely to suit too.
Race 2 (1:50pm) DOES HE KNOW
Kim Bailey’s runner has featured in the majority of his runs so far and has picked up five wins in eleven starts so far, including when sealing a double at Cheltenham (3m, good) in the penultimate start, in a Class 2 contest back in October. He returned to the same C&D in November, placing second, behind Threeunderthrufive and looks to be a major contender for this contest
Race 3 (2:25pm) CARIBEAN BOY
Nicky Henderson’s runner picked up two wins in the opening three starts, including a Class 2 contest at Newbury fifteen months ago and after a run of six races without a victory, he picked up the win at Kempton (3m, soft) last time out, 2 lengths clear of Smarty Wild and a further 8.5 lengths clear of the rest. He has had a five week break since and should come in refreshed and raring to go, with hopes of making amends for his first fence fall at this venue on his last visit.
Race 4 (3:00pm) CAP DU MATHAN
Comes in looking for a hat-trick for Paul Nicholls, having scored at Plumpton (1m 7f, heavy) back in January 2020 and returning after two years away, to take the spoils at Taunton (2m 3f, soft) like he had never been away, five and a half weeks ago, beating Masters Legacy by a very comfortable 9.5 lengths. More is expected of this fine performer and a win is a very strong possibility here.
Race 5 (3:38pm) DASHEL DRASHER
Ten wins in twenty starts so far, for this talented Jeremy Scott runner, adding to that list as recently as December, when winning at Newbury (2m 4f, soft) in a Class contest, when half a length clear of Beauport. A second in the mud at Lingfield (2m 6f, heavy) shows he enjoys the expected poor conditions and despite Fakir D’Oudairies favouritism, last years victor can grab the win once again.
Race 6 (4:10pm) ART OF DIPLOMACY
In fine form of late, grabbing two of three career wins, in the last three start, with a victory last time out at Catterick (3m 1f, good to soft), when easing to a 7.5 length win, ahead of Bill Baxter last month. A rise of 10lbs would be a problem, but thankfully, promising jockey, Cillian Leonard’s claim, halves that increase. Surely has more to come and should be handily placed as they head towards the closing stages.
