After a couple of solid runs at the back end of the year, she returned from a short break, to place second at Punchestown (2m 4f, yielding) on hurdling debut, when half a length adrift of surprise 40/1 winner, Rock On Cassie. More to come, after that run seventeen days ago and should feature heavily, if building upon that performance.
Race 2 (1:55pm) WHOWONTHETOSS
Useful Arthur Moore trained runner, who has placed in four of the six starts so far. He returned from a ten month break to place fourth in a Leopardstown hurdle (2m soft) on Boxing Day, before showing improvement, to place second at Fairyhouse (2m, soft), when 2.25 lengths adrift of Innovated, despite going in as favourite in the contest, thirty-three days ago. Expected to feature once more and places should be well within is grasp
Race 3 (2:30pm) MR FRED ROGERS
Three wins and a place in five starts so far, for this Gordon Elliott runner, who caught the eye, when winning for William Murphy on debut, back March of last year at Tipperary. Has continued that form since joining te Cullentra House stables and won in the latest at Thurles (2m 7f, good to yielding), when 1.25 lengths ahead of Nell’s Well in a novice hurdle back in December, when overcoming a bad error. Davy Russell returns to ride this time around and another strong performance is expected.
Race 4 (3:05pm) DERRIDAE
Moses McCabe’s runner was a ten race maiden, with relatively little to shout about, barring a few fifth placed finishes, but this mare finally got her time in the spotlight, last time out at Limerick (2m, soft) to win by 4 lengths, ahead of the reopposing Danegeld. A 6lbs rise isn’t ideal, although Jack Foley’s claim will be helpful, but it will be interesting to see if she can repeat the feat, with a 5lbs swing in favour of the second that day. Expected to go close once more.
Race 5 (3:40pm) BONNIE KELLIE
She made a bright start to her career, when fourth of fourteen at Limerick, back in April, but struggled to build upon that in five subsequent runs, until take a victory in her penultimate start at Punchestown (2m, heavy), when 5 lengths clear of Cosa Ban, last month. She followed up with a third at Down Royal eight days later, which may have come a little too soon for her, but ultimately she seems to have finally found her range. Chances here, assuming she can continue the strong form.
Race 6 (4:15pm) CAVALLINO
One win and three places in seven career starts, with that single victory coming here at Clonmel back in April, over 2m. He returned for a seasonal and chase debut in November with a fall at Gowran Park, before placing at Thurles (3m, good) in December and most recently, placing third at Navan (3m, yielding) four weeks ago. Based on those runs, he looks the one to potentially beat here and should be very much in the mix, come the closing stages.
