The opening day of the 2021 St Leger meeting begins on Wednesday, with the highlight of the card, the Mondialiste Leger Legends Classified Stakes at 2:50pm. The race is the only charity race to feature ex-professional jockeys and since 2010, it has seen famous names like AP McCoy, Joseph O’Brien, Brian Harding, and Julie Krone all take the spoils. Mumtaaz
This year’s Leger Legends race plays host to thirteen runners, as they battle it out over the 1m trip. The favourite to take the spoils is Mumtaaz, ridden by Barry Geraghty. This Charlie Hills runner, has just the one career win so far, at Bath back in April and has shown some solid form in recent runs, including a second last time out at Windsor in a Class 4 contest ten days ago, when 1.5 lengths behind Noble Patron. He is in good form and has already been backed in on the boards at this early stage and thus looks the one to beat.

First Dance
The main threat looks to come from this Tom Tate runner, with the ever popular, Brain Harding onboard. First Dance has been in excellent form of late, sealing a Newmarket double, with a win twenty-four days ago (1m, good to firm), beating Don’t Tell Claire by a nose. Was unlucky in the latest, when half a length short of Millie Miglia on the hattrick attempt, also at Newmarket (1m 2f, good to firm). Natural Colour
Natural Colour looks to be one of the leading candidates to push themselves into contention from the rest of the field. The Saeed Bin Suroor filly has Gary Bardwell onboard, as she looks for a maiden win, after five runs without success. A third at Yarmouth in a handicap, saw them 5.25 lengths behind winner, The Thunderer. She looks to be capable of building upon that run here and with a 5lbs weight advantage over her male counterparts, could well feature amongst the leaders as they head for home.

Shining Aitch
Shining Aitch also looks worthy of consideration for this contest, with Robert Winston riding this PJ McBride runner. This 4-yo has two wins and five places in thirteen starts and recently won at Nottingham (1m 2f, good) back in July, in an amateur female rider’s contest. Has since placed third and fourth, without disgracing and looks capable of more, if able to get a run. Solid form and a little market interest, make this worth considering for each-way backers.

Coverham
Although, he is currently floating around 11/1 mark, Coverham does come in as the highest rated of the field. Harry Eustace’s 7-yo has won as recently as April, when taking the spoils at Yarmouth (1m 3f, good to firm) and easing to a 2.5 length victory. He has since placed twice and finished fifth of eight, when rising up to Class 4 level last time out at Pontefract.
