NAP: Emily Upjohn (2.40 Ascot) – 4/1
October NAP Profit/Loss to a £1 level stake (Settled at SP): -£3
EMILY UPJOHN is well worth a punt at the current generous odds of 4/1 with some bookmakers. She is a filly of the highest quality who on her day should account for this company. John and Thady Gosden know how to ready one on Champions Day and have a remarkable record in this race.
Emily Upjohn should have an Oaks to her name realistically, and she is clearly very talented. The King George last time was an extraordinarily messy affair, and I can forgive that run, as I did with Westover in the Arc who ran creditably. On known form Emily Upjohn is better than all of these fillies and gets the handy weight from some of her older rivals. Expect her to be match fit here and ready to roll – the current prices surely are underestimating her class and she can give us a real run all being well.
Double
Trueshan (QIPCO Long Distance Cup) 1.25pm – 7/4
Baaeed (QIPCO Champions Stakes) 4pm – 1/4
October Double Profit/Loss to a £1 level stake (Settled at SP): +£12
With the withdrawal of Kyprios at the entries stage, the door looks firmly open for star stayer Trueshan to win a third QIPCO Long Distance Cup at the opener at Ascot.
He has had a funny campaign which saw him lose at short odds last time, but was given far too much to do that day in a messy race.
He should be much better here and is going to take some beating, with Alan King targeting this race a long way out. He will be spot on today, and should get softer conditions, with spots of rain about all week. That should see him right and it will take something special from the likes of Elder Eldarov to take his crown. He’s a great price too, with 9/4 available with some bookmakers.
I couldn’t not include the star of the show in our accumulator for the weekend. Not out of sentimental value – but just that he is surely the banker of bankers on Saturday.
Still unbeaten, he looks to sign off as Frankel did in the QIPCO Champions Stakes at 4pm. He hasn’t looked remotely close to being beaten this year, cruising his way through races without anything being able to go with him.
He comes here having already won on Champions Day last year, so course and any tough conditions are not a worry. It would be a real dampener on the day at ascot should he lose, but for all money it surely can’t happen.
Outsider: Perfect Power (2.40 Ascot) – 10/1
October Outsider Profit/Loss to a £1 level stake (Settled at SP): +£23.50
The most open race of day, and traditionally one that throws up a surprise. 2021 winner Creative Force is the correct favourite, but everything fell right last year and he was in better form coming into the race. Rohaan loves Ascot and should get his pace so is a big danger. However, PERFECT POWER comes back to the scene of his brilliant Commonwealth Cup win and has since run in races that didn’t suit. He can put things right with Richard Fahey a master at getting them right on Champions Day.
