NAP: Dolos (1.45 Sandown) – 11/4
The clue is in the name with this one as we take Dolos to win the Virgin Bet Dolos Handicap Chase. He’s a multiple winner of this race and it looks once more his for the taking. He’s been keeping higher company than this recently and without troubling the winners, has been acquitting himself well. Sandown suits him down to the ground, and this drop in grade should see him prevail. He’s only 3lbs higher than last year’s win – a comfortable 4 length success – and has rated much higher in the past. He’s confident bet at a standout 11/4 here.
Double:
Gerri Colombe (2.20 Sandown) – 6/5
GERRI COLOMBE makes the trip across the Irish Sea rather than the Dublin Racing Festival and Gordon Elliott looks to have found an excellent opportunity for another win. This is a moderate Grade 1 to say the very least with Monmiral the only rival with any top tier wins, and that was over hurdles.
The selection is highly rated having won all his starts so far including two Chase wins, one of which a Grade 1 at Christmas. If on song he should have too much class for these.
Ballygrifincottage (2.40 Wetherby) – 4/6
Two-time winner BALLYGRIFINCOTTAGE has another excellent chance here over inferior rivals. He’s got a bit in hand over these and if he’s in the same form as last time, where he beat two rivals with any amount to spare, he will take a bit of stopping in this. He had Quel Destin some 36 lengths beat that day and that rival franked the form this week, beating two rivals including Grade 1 winner Goshen. The selection is well treated here and should have the beating of these.
Call Me Lord (2.55 Sandown) – 7/1
CALL ME LORD was sixth in this last year off the same mark but ran better than that result suggested. He would have been much closer but for a couple of poor jumps at the end and I’m happy to take another chance on him. He has an extra pull at the weights here thanks to his jockey’s claim this year and that should really help over this distance.
He has run some decent races so far this season. Most eyecatching was his run here where he was touched off by a nose. This course clearly suits and he should be well in the mix.
