Race 1 (12:30pm) LORD CAPRIO
Solid performer with five wins and five places in nineteen starts so far and picking up a useful victory over C&D (good) back in August, when a length clear of Sea Prince off a career low mark. He shaped up well in the following contest, when third of nine at Sedgefield (2m, good to soft), last time out, a month ago and comes into this contest off the same mark. Strong claims here and ground should suit too.
Race 2 (1:00pm) SOPHIE OLIVIA
Both career victories came at this venue, but some three years ago now, and had run just three times in the last two years for trainer, Martin Todhunter, failing to finish in each of those starts. However, a fresh start with Tristan Davidson’s yard is hoped to give this useful runner, renewed impetus in this contest. Drops back in trip for this first contest since a wind op and despite the obvious concerns, cannot be ignored based on previous form and thus should feature.
Race 3 (1:35pm) AAZZA
Beat Hollow mare, out of Kalygarde, who cost 18,000Eur as a 3-yo. Won a point race on debut in Ireland and looks to have plenty of respect, now switching to rules for the first time. She stayed 2m 5f in that point race well, and this half sister to useful hurdler/chaser Niccolai has a potentially strong career ahead. Rose Dobbin’ s yard is in good form at the moment and that just adds another reason for selection.
Race 4 (2:10pm) CRACK DU NINIAN
It took six runs, before Jennie Candish’s runner took a maiden victory, at Uttoxeter (1m 7f, soft) in October 2020 and since then, he has performed well, picking up three more win victories and a place in five subsequent starts, including the win last time out at Sedgefield (2m 1f, good to soft) last month on chase debut. Open to further improvement, off the back of that run and is expected to be in the fight for the spoils once again, with Sean Quinnlan continuing onboard.
Race 5 (2:40pm) MCGARRY
Twelve race maiden, who has failed to place so far, although he did arguably have his best performance so far, last time out at Sedgefield (2m, good to soft), when fourth of thirteen in his last run back in March. He has fallen considerably down the weights over the eight month break and looks to have genuine chances off a low mark over this first time 2m 7f trip, if able to replicate that last run.
Race 6 (3:10pm) SUPREME STEEL
Experienced 10-yo, whose last of three career wins, came as recently as last month, when taking the spoils over C&D (good), beating Real Armani by 1.5 lengths, with the rest a further 9.5 lengths behind. The fall last time out, doesn’t tell the true story of the race at Sedgefield, with cleaner jumping likely to have seen them place second. So plenty to like off of recent form and has chances in this weak contest, providing there are no further issues when jumping.
