The Turners Novices Chase, as mentioned, features four runners, but what of their chances?
Bob Olinger
The De Bromhead / Blackmore team have just the one winner so far, this Festival, but that can change with this talented runner, who has won his last five races, including last year’s Ballymore Hurdle here and most recently, the Grade 3 – Kildare Novice Chase at Punchestown, when 4.75 lengths clear of Capodanno. Soft conditions will suit and looks to have strong claims, but the main threat comes from the next on this list.
Galopins Des Champs
That threat is Galopins Des Champs, with the Willie Mullins yard in decent form, so far over the last couple of days and with a runner here, who has won the last four trips, including the Grade 1 – Ladbrokes Novice Chase at Leopardstown last month. He enjoys a cut in the ground and with weather expected to improve slightly, conditions may be ideal. It really is a straight fight between these two.
El Barra
Of the remaining runners, El Barra has the better chance of making an impact, but as Willie Mullins’ second string here, he clearly has work to do. He has won four times in nine runs, including a Beginner Chase at Limerick in heavy conditions, but even if a muddy Prestbury Park continues into tomorrow, he still has plenty to prove here.
Busselton
Three wins in twelve for Joseph O’Brien’s runner, including a Beginners Chase at Punchestown back in November and despite a creditable fourth of six in the Irish Arkle last time out, this looks way beyond his abilities at this time
