Today’s top selections from the press and media focus on the second day of action at Royal Ascot, with a pair of selections in the Hampton Court Stakes (1:50pm) amongst them. So check out the top five most popular newspaper tips below, along with the best odds available.
1: JUAN ELCANO (1:50pm Royal Ascot) (5 Votes)
Winner on heavy ground on debut a year ago at Haydock, before a couple of second place finishes in Group 2 events (both good to firm). Performed well in the 2,000 Guineas last time out, finishing fifth (of fifteen), just four lengths behind winner Kameko. Arguably has the best form among the field this afternoon, with the rise to 1m 2f the only concern. Every chance.

2: RUSSIAN EMPEROR (1:50pm Royal Ascot) (4 Votes)
Winner of a maiden at Naas in March (heavy conditions) over a mile, before finishing last time out in a Derby Trial at Leopardstown, falling short to front runner Cormorant, by half a length. Should improve on what is only his fourth career start and should be fine if ground softens.

3: JAPAN (4:10pm Royal Ascot) (4 Votes)
After finishing third in the Derby last year, Aiden O’Brien’s has gone on to pick up wins in the King Edward VII Stakes at this venue, along with the Juddmonte International at York last August, before ending the season with a creditable fourth in the Arc. if he can continue on from last season’s form, he’ll be hard to beat.

4: DARK VISION (3:35pm Royal Ascot) (3 Votes)
Has not won since July 2018, but a return to form, just at the right time may give him a chance this afternoon. A couple of third places in 2019 was all he could muster, although excuses can be found for a variety of poor runs. However on seasonal debut a fortnight ago, he was just beaten by Sir Busker in a Class 2 at Newcastle, when running without headgear for the first time in six. Could surprise, if he can repeat that performance, but each-way claims looks safer.

5: COLLIDE 4:40pm Royal Ascot) (3 Votes)
Decent handicapper, who has come on leaps and bounds since a wind-op during the Winter. A listed win at Cagnes (1m 4f, soft) in February, has since been followed by an all-weather win at Chelmsford eight days ago. Does come into the race under a weight penalty, but should continue to improve and has solid claims here.
