SATURDAY
AWAY HE GOES – Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) (2:30pm Newbury)
The Geoffrey Freer Stakes is the big race on the card at Newbury on Saturday, with this five runner field featuring three main charges for the win, with Zechariah, the narrow favourite, Away He Goes and Universal Order all expected to be fighting for the victory. For my selection, i’ve gone for Away He Goes.
Ismail Mohammed’s charge has three wins and six places in eighteen career starts, although the last victory was back in September 2020, at Doncaster. A brief spell in the U.A.E. saw them grab three places in four starts at Meydan last year, but has not quite been able to match that form since returning home, with a second in the Group 1 – Goodwood Cup Stakes (2m, soft) back in July of last year, the clear highlight. He placed fifth in this years renewal of that race, looking near to his old self and could well be the catalyst for a victory here.
AWAY HE GOES TO WIN (2/1)
BRENTFORD v MANCHESTER UNITED (Premier League, 5:30pm)
Brentford host Manchester United at the Community Stadium, with both sides looking to get their season off and running with a victory.
Brentford came back from a poor start to draw 2-2 at Leicester City last weekend, with goals from Toney and DaSilva, with Thomas Frank very pleased with his sides fighting spirit. That cannot be said so much of Manchester United, as Erik ten Hag’s reign got off to the worst possible start, with a 2-1 home loss to Brighton, who had never won at Old Trafford previously. Pascal Gross’s brace put the Seagulls 2-0 up, before an own goal gave United a lifeline, but in fairness, the Red Devils deserved very little from the match.
It remains to be seen how United shape up this time, against a Bees side, who will be hosting their first home match of the season, infront of a boisterous crowd, but clearly they cannot afford a slow start. Brentford could also feature Mikkel Damsgaard, who has signed from Sampdoria and I fancy the Bees to sting the visitors and hold them to a draw.

SUNDAY
MANLY SEA EAGLES v GOLD COAST TITANS (NRL, 7:05am)
Manly Sea Eagles visit the Cbus Super Stadium, as they play Gold Coast Titans in this NRL clash, early on Sunday morning.
Gold Coast Titans are rock bottom of the NRL table with just 8 points, winning three and losing sixteen matches. Manly Sea Eagles are only six places ahead, but some 12 points clear and actually hold hopes of a play-off place, but need to bounce back, after three straight losses.
The Titans have lost the last ten matches and having lost to the Sea Eagles 26-18 back in April, another loss looks on the cards here.
MANLY SEA EAGLES TO WIN (1/2)
CHELSEA v TOTTENHAM (Premier League, 4:30pm)
We have a cracking London derby on Sunday, as Chelsea take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte once again returns to take on his old club.
Chelsea, under the stewarship of new owners have had a partial rebuild over the Summer, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling added the side, among others, while Spurs have been the most active so far, bringing six players in, including Ivan Perisic and Richarlison to name a few.
Both sides got off to the perfect start, with victories, with Jorginho’s penalty enough to take the points for the Blues at Everton, while Spurs came from a goal down to beat Southampton 4-1. Chelsea have won the last four meetings between the sides, with clean sheets in each, but with Thomas Tuchel not happy with his side and chasing further signings, this may be the best opportunity for Spurs to get something out of the match and I fancy a stalemate here.
DRAW RESULT (47/10)
