The 2023/24 All-Weather Championship resumes on Tuesday at Wolverhampton, with another nine competitive races on the card, all of which are sponsored by BetUK + BetMGM.
GG editor Tom Aldridge runs through the full card, giving his selections for all nine races, including one at a double-figure price he’s keen on in the feature race on the card (7pm).

4.25pm – Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Handicap (Class 5)
Archie Watson’s ABBEY’S DREAM has a fine record on the AW – in her 13 races on the all-weather she has won 3 and finished runner-up six times. Hollie Doyle has been booked for the ride and she’s been on board for one of those wins, and she was also on board last time out when chasing home the favourite Turquoise Diamond at Newcastle last month. The selection has only had two races at Wolverhampton – she finished runner-up last year but went one better on her last appearance here, winning a fillies’ handicap last month. She takes on the boys here but she’s more than capable of making her presence felt and she looks a tempting price.
5.00pm – Bet £10 Get £40 At BetMGM EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (Class 5)
The return to the AW should benefit QUEEN’S MUSIC, who failed to handle the conditions at Epsom last month, and having gone close on her debut at Lingfield, I’m fully expecting her to shed her maiden tag in this. The bang in-form Rossa Ryan has been booked for the ride, and it’s worth noting he has an impressive 40% strike-rate when riding for trainer Jack Channon. The other runners in here to have raced already haven’t shown much yet, so she’s one of the more confident bets on the card.
5.30pm – Stay Golden With BetMGM Safer Gambling Handicap – Division I (Class 6)
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of this race. There isn’t much form to go on and there doesn’t look to be much quality in the line up either! The one I think is the pick of the bunch is LYNWOOD LAD, who hasn’t been beaten far in his last three races since the addition of cheekpieces and could finally gain a first win at the tenth time of asking. Rob Hornby was on board last time out and has been booked again, which is a positive considering his 17% strike-rate at Wolverhampton this season, which doesn’t sound great but in the context of this race isn’t bad!
6.00pm – Stay Golden With BetMGM Safer Gambling Handicap – Division II (Class 6)
The addition of a visor and the return to the all-weather seems to have helped INTOXICATA, who has put in a couple of solid efforts over a mile in his last two runs. He’s certainly more at home on the AW and having won over this trip at Lingfield on seasonal return, the drop down to 7f could be a wise move by connections. He’s been dropped 1lb since his last run, and he’s only 2lb higher now than he was when winning at Lingfield in June. This looks a good opportunity to get back in the winners enclosure, and with Rossa Ryan booked for the ride (22% strike-rate at Wolverhampton this season), he looks a fairly solid option to land this.
6.30pm – Win £2,000,000 With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Novice Stakes (Class 5)
William Haggas has an impressive 50% strike-rate when sending his runners to Wolverhampton this season, and he’s sending just one runner there on Tuesday – WINTERFAIR. The filly made an eyecatching debut when fifth in a warm race at Sandown last month, where she was staying on strongly at the finish, so with the step up in trip and that experience under her belt, she suit do much better this time around. She’s also in receipt of 12lb of last time out winner Age Of Time, so I’m hoping she can put that to good use and she looks the one to take on the market leader with.
7.00pm – Find More Big Deals With BetUK Handicap (Class 4)
I’m siding with one at a big price in here – VESPASIAN. The Simon & Ed Crisford yard is in red-hot form currently (4 winners from their last 12 runners on the AW) and Vespasian’s best form has come on the all-weather, with a 31216233622 (2-11) strike-rate on the AW, opposed to his 525476 (0-6) on turf. That AW record includes three runs at Wolverhampton:
- A runner-up effort behind Pocket The Packet (now rated 88) in December 2022.
- Finshing within two lengths of the winner when 6th off top weight in February 2023.
- Another runner-up effort behind Godolphin’s Secret Moment in June 2023.
All three races were solid efforts and he’s now on a career low mark of 76. I think he’s massively overpriced and is certainly capable of running into a place here.
7.30pm – BetMGM: It’s Showtime Nursery Handicap (Class 5)
This looks the perfect opportunity for LADY BOUQUET to resume winning ways. Philip Kirby’s filly made all to win comfortably over C&D earlier this month, and wasn’t beaten far off last time out off a 9lb higher mark. She’s been put up a further 1lb for that effort but she could still prove ahead of the handicapper back to the scene of her last victory. It’s also worth noting that her trainer has sent out more winners at Wolverhampton than at any other venue, and Lady Bouquet is his sole runner on the card on Tuesday.
8.00pm – Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap (Class 6)
Stay Smart is yet to win on the back of a 50+ day break, so I’m willing to take him on, and I’m also going to take on Bankrupt, who needed every inch of the 6f at Kempton to win last time out. The one I’ll be taking them on with is NORDIC GLORY, who gained a first win in over 18 months when edging out So Sleepy at Lingfield earlier this month. That runner-up has since won next time out to boost the form, and having won off a mark of 69 in the past, this mark of 55 should be well within Nordic Glory’s capabilities.
8.30pm – BetUK. Home Of The Acca-Fenwa Handicap (Class 5)
The final race on the card can go the way of MASTER OF COMBAT, who won with something in hand over C&D earlier this month and should be the 4lb rise in the ratings. The runner-up Port Erin was the only one close to the winner that day, and he has since come out and won to further boost that form. Rossa Ryan was on board that win earlier this month and has also ridden him to his other victory at Doncaster last year, so it’s a positive to see the in-form jockey booked again here. I think Master Of Combat could win this fairly comfortably, and he rates as one of the more confident bets on the card.
