Returned for seasonal debut here, over 2m 5f (good) last month, when seventh of nineteen that day, clearly needing the run and looks to be capable of building upon that this afternoon.

Very consistent performer over the second half of this year, bagging a trio of successive second placed finishes through July and August, before just dropping off a little. However first time tongue-tie seemed to help get him back on track, when taking the spoils at Galway (2m, soft) in latest, three weeks ago.Strong chances based on form, although heavy ground may be a factor today.

(3) (2:50pm Cheltenham) POKER PLAY was 22/1, now 12/1
Winner at Ffos Las (2m 4f, soft) thirteen months ago, in a strong performance, but has failed to kick on since, finishing 5,10,10 in last three starts, all at Cheltenham, although was clearly out of his depth in the Grade 1 – Marsh Chase, when tailed off. Needs soft or heavy ground to perform and has seen a fair bit of interest in the market overnight, with rain expected. Worth an each-way tickle, if the heavens open.

(4) (12:30pm Cheltenham) BALKO SAINT was 33/1, now 20/1
Solid performances in two career runs so far, finishing second on debut at Newton Abbot (2m, good) in a juvenile hurdle back in August, before following on with at Fontwell last month (2m 1f, soft) in another juvenile hurdle run. This will be a stern test this afternoon and realistically, even with some market interest, a place in this contest, would be a good achievement.

Winner in a point contest back in February, albeit in a small field, and made debut under rules at Bangor, when unseating rider at the first. Backed in on what is effectively a restart under rules, but no better than places expected for those braver souls out there. One to watch from the sidelines.
