Ebor Festival – Day 1 Picks

Race 1 (1:50pm) HURRICANE IVOR

Two time winner in France, over 6f tips, but has so far been raced over 5f since switching to the WIllie Haggas yard. Picked up a victory at Sandown (5f, good to soft) earlier this month, before a second at Ascot (5f, good), three weeks ago, when beaten by a shorthead to Significantly. Was very disappointing, when fifteenth of twenty-four last time out at Goodwood and is expected to bounce back here.

Race 2 (2:25pm) NOBLE TRUTH

Made a decent start to his career when third at Newmarket (7f, good to soft), back in June, finishing four lengths adrift of Lusail, before reaping the benefits of that run, when taking the spoils over C&D last month on good to firm ground and beating race rival, Ehraz by 2 lengths, who has since gone on to a recent win at Ascot. Strong chances for the victory and thus should feature easily.

Race 3 (3:00pm) HIGH DEFINITION

Two wins as a juvenile, both came at Curragh last year, on soft and yielding ground. Return to action in May brought a creditable third in the Dante, here at York (1m 2f, good), when 2 lengths behind Hurricane Lane, before being impeded in the Irish Derby and having no chance of recovery, which once again saw Hurricane Lane win. Hopefully a better run here will see them challenge for the spoils, while Ryan Moore has opted for this ride, out of the three Aiden O’Brien entries.

Race 4 3:35pm) **(LOVE**

Seven wins in twelve starts, for Aiden O’Brien, including the Epsom Oaks (1m 4f, good) in July, when 9 lengths clear of Ennistymon, along side victories in the Yorkshire Oaks and **Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (1m 1f, good to firm) at Royal Ascot, when 0.75 lengths ahead of Audarya. Placed third in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at Ascot last time out, behind race rival Mishriff, but is expected to bounce back here over

Race 5 (4:10pm) SCARAMANGA

Currently on a four-timer, having sealed a hat-trick in a Class 2 handicap at Newbury (2m, good to firm), when half a length clear of Rodrigo Diaz. That followed wins at Sandown and back at Newbury prior over timber before. Paul Nicholls’s charge looks in good nick here and should feature amongst the leaders heading for home.

Race 6 (4:45pm) TWEET TWEET

Looked solid in early runs last season, before returning in April and claiming victory at Thirsk (5f, good to firm). Struggled at this venue, when ninth the following month, before returning to winning ways at Haydock (5f, good to firm), when half a length clear of Indian Sounds. Loves fast ground and one of the leading candidates to take the spoils.
