Race 1 (1:25pm) EL PICADOR
Three time winner, with the last of those coming back in May, at Hamilton (1m 3f, good to firm), when beating Puckle by a neck. He returned last month, with a sixth at Newcastle, before improving to place third in latest at Southwell (1m 4f, a/w), when 0.75 lengths adrift of Maharashtra, having missed the break too. Better chances here and plenty to like about this Keith Dalgiesh runner.
Race 2 (2:00pm) CHALLET
Michael Dods runner, who added a fifth career victory to his CV, when winning a Class 3 at York (7f, good), back in September, when half a length clear of Silver Samurai, before stepping a level and placing third,. A fortnight later at the same venue. Up just 1lb for this return to action and looks capable of building upon that strong last season here. Likely to feature.
Race 3 (2:35pm) BORDER EDGE
Sharmadal gelding out of Emirates Rewards and half brother to 7f and 1m winner, Back From Dubai. She is also a half-sister to winners, Outstrip and Asi Siempre. Pedigree is unsurprisingly strong and with Charlie Appleby’s generally strong record with newcomers, Borders Edge is fancied to get off to a cracking start to her career.
Race 4 (3:10pm) BLUEBERRY HILL
Strong in both starts so far, placing fourth of thirteen on debut at Kempton (7f, a/w) back in August, before a third of fourteen at Kempton (7f, a/w) once again, when 3 lengths adrift of Laasudood back in October. Improvement is certainly expected, with maturity and this Team Gosden runner can confirm that opening form, here.
Race 5 (3:45pm) YEAR OF THE DRAGON
Winner on second start, but has been unable to add to that in six starts since, although he has placed a further three times, including when third at Kempton (1m, a/w) last month. A third of six at Newcastle in latest, saw them continue the useful form, when 1.25 lengths behind Imperial Command, but will need to show a little more, now up in level and trip. Capable of doing so, but arguably the riskiest of the six selections in this placepot.
Race 6 (4:10pm) BERGERAC
Two wins in twelve, with the last coming at York, back in September. After a couple of poor runs in the Autumn, Kevin Ryan’s charge bounced back, with a useful third of eight at Southwell (4f, a/w), when 1.25 lengths adrift of Fine Wine. Expect a better run, now over 6f and to feature heavily.
