Tote Placepot: Royal Ascot - Day 5 Selections

The Tote’s excellent Placepot bet offers a chance for punters to win big on multiples, with relatively small stakes. Check out a pair of selections for each race the final day of Royal Ascot this afternoon.

.

Note All races in placepot cover three places only.

Race 1 (12:40pm) NAHAARR

Picked up a four timer, including wins by 5/6 lengths in Handicaps last season, but has not been able to replicate that form at at the higher level so far, with his most recent run, resulting in a fourth at [Newmarket] over 7f. Drops back in distance today which should aide chances, but is unproven on soft ground. Room for improvement.

Alternative Selection: Aplomb

Race 2 (1:15pm) SACRED

Drawn on the inside when winning a fillies maiden at Newmarket sixteen days ago, but had to switch to the outside to challenge and responded well when asked to go. That was run on good to firm, which poses a question of her ability on soft ground, but looks a strong candidate.

*Alternative Selection: Campanelle

Race 3 (1:50pm) QAADER

Won debut a week ago in impressive style at Newbury, when taking the lead into the last furlong and kicking on to win by 4 lengths, although did hang briefly. Perotto, who finished third in that race has since won at Goodwood last monday which only enhances this Mark Johnston’s runner’s hopes here.

Alternative Selection: Dark Lion

Race 4 (2:25pm) QUADRILATERAL

Winner of all three 2019 runs, including the Fillies Mile at Newmarket in October, when getting the better of Love, before those fortunes were reversed in the 1000 Guineas, as Quadrilateral finished third some 4.5 lengths behind. Without a tongue-tie today having pulled hard in the Guineas and can go close.

Alternative Selection: Run Wild

Race 5 (3:00pm) WICHITA

Romped to a 7 length win in a Group 3 at Newmarket, but has not been able to push on so far since, with a third to race rival Pinatubo in the Dewhurst Stakes in October, before missing out to Kameko in the 2000 Guineas a fortnight ago. In fine form otherwise and looks set to dual once again with Pinatubo for the win.

Alternative Selection: Palace Pier

Race 6 (3:35pm) SCEPTICAL

Winner of last four runs for Dennis Hogan, completing a hat-trick at Dundalk, before running clear in a listed race at Naas last time out to win by 3 lengths on turf debut. Bought for less than £3,000 and looks an absolute snip with this Group 1 race well within his grasp. Frankie Dettori rides today.

Alternative Selection: Hello Youmzain
