Ebor Festival – Day 2 Picks
Race 1 (1:50pm) SANDRINE
Comes into this contest unbeaten, having sealed a hat-trick last time out in the Group 2 – Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket (6f, good to firm), when 1.75 lengths clear of race rival, Desert Dreamer and ahead of another in Hello You. She gives 3lbs here, but still looks more than capable of takin the spoils.
Race 2 (2:25pm) KORKER
Picked up a maiden win at Carlisle (5f, good to soft) back in May, before struggling to make an impact in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. However, Karl Burke’s charge bounced back to take the spoils in latest at Thirsk (5f, good to firm), justifying favouritism with a 5 length win, ahead of Enraged. The colt travelled well in that race and the extra furlong here shouldn’t be an issue, but he will need to find a little more to challenge for the outright victory.
Race 3 (3:00pm) MAGICAL MORNING
The Gosden runner picked up a third career win at Sandown in his penultimate run, when 0.75 lengths ahead of race rival Maydanny in the Class 2 – Coral Challenge, with Escobar alo trailing. However, in the next run, he was hooded on the run down to the start and didn’t look comfortable, as he trailed some 15 lengths back from Maydanny in the Golden Mile at Goodwood. It make for an interesting battle in this contest and if Magical Morning can put that behind him, he will no doubt feature prominently once more.
Race 4 (3:35pm) SNOWFALL
Looking for a four-timer, having won the Musidora here and the both the Epsom and Irish Oaks. Looked head and shoulders above the rest, when cruising to an 8.5 length victory at the Curragh, with Divinely in second. Strong odds on favourite and little point in looking elsewhere in this contest.
Race 5 (4:10pm) HARROW
After a couple of seconds at Newbury (6f, good to firm and 7f, good), Andrew Balding’s colt bagged a maiden victory at Ffos Las (7f, good to firm) fifteen days ago, beating Tylos by a head in a four-runner contest. Hung left in the losing stages, but thankfully it did not stop the victory. Will need to show a little more here, but very capable of getting into the places in this contest.
Race 6 (4:45pm) PENNYMOOR
Ran green on debut, but showed a marked improvement, when second at Pontefract (1m 2f, soft) last month, when 1.75 lengths behind the winner. She then went on to take the spoils last time out at Kempton (1m 3f, a/w) at a class higher, when a whopping 9.5 lengths clear of Artemisia Lomi a fortnight ago. She was very impressive that day and despite a big jump in class, can show her mettle in this final Placepot contest.
