Race 1 (1:20pm) MAKALU
Comes into this contest off the back of two victories, firstly at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) back in June, when 0.75 lengths ahead of Joeyremy, before taking the spoils at Carlisle (6f,good to firm) last time out in a nursery, when 0.75 lengths clear of Mackenzie Rose. He looked strong in the closing stages of that contest and this extended mile trip looks perfect for him here. Kevin Ryan’s charge has a big chance of a hattrick.
Race 2 (1:55pm) MAYDANNY
Two wins and four places for Mark Johnston’s runner, with the last of the victories coming at Goodwood in the Class 2 – Golden Mile, when 1.75 lengths clear of Rhoscolyn. Has struggled in a couple of more intensive tests of late, placing seventh of eighteen in the Clipper Logistics Handicap at York, albeit when 8lbs higher and when last of five in the Group 3 – Superior Mile at Haydock. Capable of bouncing back here and certainly should feature among the leading runners as they head into the closing stages.
Race 3 (2:30pm) BLACKROD
Like the aforementioned Makalu, this Michael Dods trained runner is looking for a hattrick, having won a Class 2 Heritage Handicap at Newmarket (6f, good to firm), along with another Class 2 at York (5f, good) in his most recent run, when beating Digital by a neck. A difficult draw is the only concern, as overall, his form puts him head and shoulders above the rest. Strong claims and a hattrick looks likely.
Race 4 (3:05pm) HELLOMYDARLIN
Impressed win winning on debut at Goodwood (6f, good to firm) back in June, when a neck clear of Zain Claudette. Has since shown significant improvement in higher ranked contests, with the latest, a second in the listed – Champion 2yr Old Trophy Stakes at Ripon eighteen days ago, finishing some 4.5 lengths behind runaway winner, Flotus. Usually runs well with a strong pace, which is likely once again and is expected to go close
Race 5 (3:40pm) POPMASTER
Four wins in ten starts for this talented, Ed Walker runner, picking up a Class 3 win at Doncaster (6f, good to soft) in July and also last time out at Ascot in the Class 2 – Fever-Tree Handicap, beating race rival, Royal Scimitar by 2.5 lengths in a strong performance. This is a strong contest, but another similar run to that Ascot victory, will put them in very good stead here.
Race 6 (4:15m) CRUYFF TURN
Five wins in thirteen, including four in the last six trips. Tim Easterby’s gelding sealed a double at Redcar (7fm good to firm) back in June and last time out, won at York in the Clipper Logistics Stakes last month, beating Magical Morning by a head. Plenty to like here, although the handicapper has been a little strong, however he still looks capable of being at the forefront of proceedings.
