Race 1 (1:00pm) MONSIEUR JUMBO

Started off well, with a couple of places in the opening two starts, including a second, that was later dropped to third at Doncaster (6f, heavy) in July. A couple of attempts at higher levels saw Kevin Ryan’s charge struggle, before picking up a third at Haydock (6f, good to firm) a month ago, just half a length behind winner, Laheg. Capable of continuing that form here, but has struggled under pressure previously. Places look the more likely than a victory here.

Race 2 (1:30pm) DR T J ECKLEBURG

Was a seven race maiden, before finally grabbing the victory over C&D (good to firm) back in June, when half a length clear of Engles Rock. He returned from a two and a half month break to place a creditable third at Newmarket (1m 2f, good) a fortnight ago, when not quite getting the required room. Should improve further here and comes in off the same mark, which also encourages.

Race 3 (2:05pm) CABALLERO

Last of two career wins came back in 2018, however this Keith Dalgliesh has shown a good consistency in general, with recent form showing a marked improvement, when second in a Class 4 contest at Hamilton seventeen days ago, 1.75 lengths behind Trusty Scout in a Selling Stakes. If able to continue on from that performance, this gelding should be in the mix.

Race 4 (2:40pm) AONE ALLY

Four race maiden, who has struggled in general, across those starts, but did find the best run to date last time out, when fifth (ten runners) at Hamilton (1m 1f, good to soft), some 3.25 lengths adrift of the winner on handicap debut. He did tire in the latter stages, so the drop back in trip should suit in what is a weak contest. Will be fresh from the break, although it remains to be seen, if he needs the run. The weaker of the selections here, but capable of more.

Race 5 (3:15pm) ERICH BLOCH

A previous course and distance winner, who has failed to build upon a solid second at Southwell (7f, a/w) back in April, when 2.25 lengths adrift of the useful Praxeology. Two subsequent runs have been disappointing, when attempting the shorter trips, including last time out at Catterick (5f, good), when last but one. Step back up in distance will help and should find conditions more suitable.

Race 6 (3:50pm) HOSTELRY

Fifteen race maiden, who has placed in six runs, with the last of those coming at Newcastle (7f, a/w) back in August, when a 28/1 shot. Has found things a little tougher in recent starts, with a lack of a strong gallop a factor. That shouldn’t be the case here, with a fourteen runner field and Ruth Carr’s charge is expected to show an improved performance this time around.
