Race 1 (1:45pm) ROSE BANDIT
Three wins in seventeen starts and comes into this contest looking for a hat-trick, having won at Hamilton (5f, good) last month and then Ayr (6f, good to soft), when 3.25 lengths clear of Must Be An Angel. Strong claims even with a 5lbs penalty and looks set to go close.
Race 2 (2:15pm) DREAMS OF THUNDER
Bought for 265,000gns and showed plenty of promise on debut, when third of six in a conditions race at Windsor seventeen days ago, just half a length behind winner, Canonized. Form looks solid, considering both finishers ahead had won previously. Strong claims with Sophie’s Star the main competition.
Race 3 [2:45pm) MAY BLOSSOM
One win in five starts, with that victory coming at Pontefract in April, when beating Khunan by a head. Struggled when pushed up to higher levels, including listed company at York, before returning to more realistic competition, but struggling over an extended 6f back at Pontefract. Drops back to 5f this afternoon and a revival looks very much on the cards.
Race 4 (3:15pm) GOLDEN FLAME
Two wins in the last three starts, completing a double in his penultimate start, when easing to a 4 length win in a three runner contest at Chelmsford in April. Step up to Group 2 level for the Queen’s Vase, was never really going to see them feature, but Mark Johnston’s charge returns to a more realistic level and handicapping once again to offer a return to winning ways. More to come and plenty of respect in the market.
Race 5 (3:45pm) JOHN CLARE
Two wins in twenty-two starts, with the last of those back in October at Leicester (7f, heavy), when 3.5 lengths clear of Inner Circle. Struggled for form in opening seasonal contests, but has since placed third at Wetherby and then second at Windsor (1m, soft) just fifteen days ago. Comes in at 2lbs above that last winning mark and looks to be building a head of steam in terms of form.
Race 6 (4:15pm) KENYAN COMMANDER
Best of fourth so far, came at Pontefract in April, when 10 lengths adrift of the winner. Had a gelding operation and finishing twentieth at York last time out on first run since. Blinkers applied today, but has market backing and looks to have a genuine chance of picking up a result.
