Race 1 (12:30pm) KARAKORAM
One win in thirty-one starts isn’t the most encouraging of records and has struggled in recent runs at Hereford. The drop in trip to 2m, should help hugely, while cheek-pieces are refitted. A third at Newton Abbot (2m, good) back in September offers hopes of a revival, especially as that was a Class 3 contest and he drops to Class 5 for this race. Each-way would be the option in normal markets, but there’s a feeling that he can take the spoils.
Race 2 (1:00pm) WILDERNESS
Sealed a Flat treble last Summer, when winning at Leopardstown, but has not been able to replicate that form since, although a third at Wincanton (1m 7f, soft) last time out in just a second huddle run, a fortnight ago produced one of the better performances of recent outings, when finishing 2.25 lengths behind Triple Nickle. Faster gound will suit today and if can continue the progress, then a challenge for the win is likely.
Race 3 (1:35pm) BROKEN HALO
Pulled-up on debut at Doncaster in January, but bounced back in style, when winning at Wincanton (2m 5f, good to soft), beating the favourite by 6 lengths at the turn of the month. Looked strong enough on the run-in to stay today’s longer trip and with improvement expected after just two runs, looks to once again be in the hunt for the spoils, with Major Dundee the main threat.
Race 4 (2:07pm) GOODNIGHT CHARLIE
Returned to a favourable result, after poor form, with a second at Warwick (3m 5f, good to soft), 3.5 lengths behind Volcano. Dropped down in the weights prior to that run and has dropped a further 2lbs, with a similar run today, likely to see a return to the winners enclosure.
Race 5 (2:37pm) WRITE IT DOWN
Latest of two career wins, came at Perth (2m 4f, good to soft) back in August and had since gone close, when second at Taunton (2m 5f, good) in November. Form has dropped off in recent runs, which is a concern, but comes in some 12lbs lower than that second placed finish. Needs to improve off those last couple of runs, but can go close, if finding older form.
Race 6 (3:07pm) IMPHAL
Consistently performer, but has not won since 2017. Returned from a three month break, when third at Kempton (2m, a/w) in a Jumper’s Bumper, finishing 3.75 lengths adrift, before placing fourth in latest at Sandown (1m, 7f, heavy). Drops a level for this race and should be the standout runner this afternoon.
