Race 1 (1:45pm) DULAS

Only win so far, came at Newcastle back in December 2019, but after some decent performances here and there, their second at Haydock (7f, good to firm) in a Class 2 contest last month has pushed him to the fore, having finished just half a length behind Persuasion and ahead of Fox Champion. Unproven on slow surfaces, but extra distance, a good draw and a rise of just 1lbs all give him a big chance here.

Race 2 (2:15pm) SANGARIUS

Lightly raced winner in two of the last three starts, including the Group 3 – Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot (1m 1f, soft) back in the Summer of 2019 and in the latest run, winning the listed – Quebec Stakes at Lingfield, when a nose ahead of Bangkok. Has had wind surgery since then and although main rival, Armory’s form is arguably stronger, the lack of starts in recent seasons, opens up the chance of further improvement. Every chance in this cracking contest.

Race 3 (2:45pm) FALCON EIGHT

Three wins and two places in eight starts so far, although the last of those was nearly two years ago in the Esher Stakes at Sandown (2m, good to firm). Lightly raced since, but picked up a third at Leopardstown (1m 6f, good) last Summer in the listed Saval Beg Levmoss Stakes, before a fourth in the Group 3 – Vintage Crop Stakes at Curragh a fortnight later. Has been gelded since and wears a visor once again. Looks a strong candidate this afternoon

Race 4 (3:15pm) EL ASTRONAUTE

A dozen wins so far in his career, including the Achilles Stakes at Doncaster (5f, good) last Summer, when beating Tarboosh by half a length. Disappointed in th CIty Walls Stakes at York a month later, before decent performances at Hamilton and Leicester. Has impressive form figures at Chester, with a record of 212123 and has won on slower ground too. Looks a straight battle with King’s Lynn for the win.

Race 5 (3:45pm) RESTORER

Ian Williams’s charge has been in strong form of late, with two wins and two seconds in his last five starts, including last time out over C&D back in September, when beating Lawn Ranger by a shorthead. Won this race on reappearance back in 2018 and enjoys soft ground too, making him a strong competitor in this race.

Race 6 (4:15pm) GRANDMASTER FLASH

Comes in looking for a treble today, having sealed a double at Dundalk (1m 4f, a/w) in March, when 1.75 lengths clear of The Mouse Doctor. Form has markedly improved since the introduction of headgear (retained) and has a lower mark back on turf. Joseph O’Brien has Ryan Moore onboard this promising runner and it will be interesting to see how close he gets. Probably warrants each-way backing, with Postileo involved.
