Race 1 (2:30pm) MASEKELA
Promising performance at Goodwood (6f, soft) on debut last month, finishing 1.25 lengths clear of Golden War. Looks good for 7f and more, with today;s contest looking a great opportunity for Anthony Balding’s charge.
Race 2 (3:05pm) LIGHT REFRAIN
Has two wins in seven starts, including amongst filles and mares, in a listed contest at Nottingham (6f, heavy) last month, when 1.25 lengths behind Last Empire. Faced a stiffer test in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock (6f, heavy) last time out, when fourth and there is no reason to suggest she cannot play a part this afternoon on this ground.
Race 3 (3:40pm) WONDERFUL TONIGHT
Each of her three victories have come on soft/heay ground, including the last outing at Ascot (1m 3f, soft), when winning a same sex race on Champions Day back in October. Massive chance on seasonal return, with the downpours yesterday, with fitness the only minor concern for this narrow favourite.
Race 4 (4:20pm) DREAM OF DREAMS
Eight wins in thirty starts and looked strong at the back end of last season, winning the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury (7f, good to soft) and the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock (6f, soft). Returned to action last month, winning a listed contest at Windsor (6f, soft), when 2.25 lengths clear of Garrus. Has leading claims under today’s conditions and with the absence of Starman.
Race 5 (5:00pm) KING’S LYNN
Finally took a second career win in his penultimate start, when taking victory by a neck to Moss Gill at Haydock (5f, soft) in the listed Achilles Stakes last month. Disappointing in the King’s Stand on Tuesday, although his path was blocked and can make up for it here. Strong favourite.
Race 6 (5:35pm) ALFAADHEL
Finished third on debut at Newbury back in April, before showing big improvements to grab successive victories at Chester (1m 2f, good to soft) and most recently at Lingfield (1m 2f, a/w), when 2 lengths clear of Sir Rumi. Tough handicap mark on debut, but has plenty more to come, it would seem.
