Race 1 (2:00pm) PATIENT DREAM
Ralph Beckett’s charge has two wins in five starts, including last time out here at Epsom (1m, good), when a length clear of Coul Kat, thanks to a late run. Rise of 7lbs isn’t ideal but for has been boosted since by the second in that race. First time over this distance, but bred to handle this and beyond. Looks a straight fight with King Frankel for the win.
Race 2 (2:35pm) STATEMENT
Winner in penultimate start at Newbury (6f, heavy) back in October, when 2 lengths clear of Nowhentorun and a further seven clear of the rest of the field. Returned to action in April, with a strong second in the Fred Darling, also at Newbury, before struggling at Newmarket (1m good to firm) last month, placing seventh in the 1000 Guineas. Looked to have struggled somewhat with the trip that day, but is well worth going with again.
Race 3 (3:10pm) BELL ROCK
Three wins in nine for Andrew Balding’s runner, including the Suffolk Stakes at Newmarket (1m 1f, good to firm) last time out, beating Maydanny by 2.5 lengths. Clearly needs to be respected, but has struggled on soft ground, so will not want any more inclement weather.
Race 4 (3:45pm) SUNDAY SOVEREIGN
Only victories so far, came for Paddy Twomey in Ireland and he has yet to reach those standards, in three starts for Tim Easterby. However he did show plenty of improvement at York (5f, soft) last time out, when second to Pendleton a fortnight ago, finishing 0.75 lengths adrift. Rise of 3lbs, but yesterday’s rain will have put him in pole position.
Race 5 (4:30pm) MAC SWINEY
Has won half of the eight starts so far, including the Group 1 – Futurity Stakes at Doncaster (1m, heavy) back in October and most recently, the Irish 2000 Guineas at Curragh (1m, soft to heavy) a fortnight ago, when beating Poetic Flare by a shorthead. Looks to take on Bolshoi Ballet and will be hoping for a better run that the previous time they met.
Race 6 (5:10pm) SOTO SIZZLER
Three wins in sixteen starts, with the last of those here over C&D two years ago. Has performed well since and returned to C&D in April for a second, behind Group One Power on good ground. Struggled in latest at Newmarket, with the 1m 6f potentially the issue. Renews the battle with Group One Power and will be looking for revenge.
