Race 1 (1:15pm) SUANNI
Was a useful four race maiden, with generally solid performances, before finally grabbing a deserved victory at Bath (5f, good to firm) eighteen days ago, when 2.5 lengths clear of Bluebell Way on nursery debut. First-time tongue strap and blinkers are retained here and Daryl Holland’s runner looks to have more to potentially come in this contest.
Race 2 (1:45pm) AZURE BLUE
Three race maiden, who has placed in all runs so far, including the latest at Ayr (7f, good to firm) four weeks ago, when second to Green Team (who has since placed eighth of ten in a Group 3 contest) by a length. Drops back to 6f for this contest and certainly is expected to feature for Michael Dods, with further improvement likely.
Race 3 (2:20pm) AIR RAID
Last of six wins came in this very contest last year, when beating Lincoln Park by a nose. Lightly raced since, with some disappointing runs too, but looked to be putting those performances behind them, when third (of twenty-one) at York (6f, good to soft) in the Sprint Trophy, when 1.25 lengths adrift of Volatile Analyst last weekend, his first run after wind surgery. Big player in this contest and capable of retaining his title here.
Race 4 (2:55pm) MYTHICAL DANCER
Has had a good career start so far, with a win on debut at Thirsk (7f, good), when beating Tuscan by a head at the beginning of last month, before stepping up in class and placing third at Leicester (7f, good to firm), failing to justify favouritism, when under penalty. Extended trip should encourage more of the him and he goes in as one of the leading candidates based on form. Strong claims once again for this Charlie Appleby charge..
Race 5 (3:30pm) KAASIRR
Dark Angel colt, out of Majeyda, with the dam a 2-yo winner over 6f -1m, including on debut. This Crisford trained runner is a half-sister to Yattwee, who has three career wins to her name. Decent pedigree and William Buick booking is a strong statement of intent, so is expected to be in the mix as they head for home.
Race 6 (4:05pm) BAKE
Solid runs in two opening career runs, before taking the spoils at Yarmouth (7f, good to firm) back in July, easing to a 9.5 length margin of victory. Martyn Meade’s runner then stepped up to Class 3 level and struck again for a double at Doncaster (1m good), when beating Tahitian Prince by a shorthead. The 2lbs rise looks about right in fairness and looks capable a treble, if able to take to the soft ground.
