The Tote’s excellent Placepot bet offers a chance for punters to win big on multiples, with relatively small stakes. Check out our selections for the day’s placepot at Haydock.
Note All races in placepot cover three places only.
Race 1 (1:10pm) HIGHEST GROUND
This Frankel colt got off to a winning start back in September at Leicester (7f) on sole run so far, winning the Class 3 race by 2.75 lengths. Rises to a 1m 2f which suits his pedigree, while the drop in class should put them in with a big opportunity of grabbing the win.
Race 2 (1:40pm) ACCLAIM THE NATION
Has picked up six wins and ten places in a total of thirty career starts and has placed on both runs at Haydock, including last time out, on his return from a four month break over C&D. Modest rise of 3lbs isn’t ideal, but should be sharper for that run and can go close to picking up a first win here.
Race 3 (2:10pm) LEGION OF HONOUR
This Wootton Bassett colt out of Miss Vendome has a fine pedigree behind him, that can be traced back to the likes of Group 1 winners, Ticker Tape and Brando. Is entered into a few high value sales races in the future and a strong debut here could mark a few cards going ahead.
Race 4 (2:40pm) CASTLEREA TESS
Just three runs last year, but did pick up a victory over today’s 6f trip at Chepstow in a seventeen runner field. Disappointed with a follow-up fourth over the same C&D sixteen days later, with the relatively quick turnaround not suiting. Comes in 5lbs heavier than the victory, but freshness should be a factor.
Race 5 (3:10pm) LACAN
This 9yo has enjoyed a new vigour since switching to the Appleby yard and comes in off the back of successive victories at Chelmsford and Kempton (Both 7f, Class 6) in the last eight days. Switches back to turf this afternoon, which will be a test in itself, having only won once, but with a minor weight increase and good form, a hat-trick is possible.
Race 6 (3:40pm) LUCANDER
Finished last season in excellent form winning at Doncaster in September, before a victory in a nursery at York a month later. Looks to be a horse that will benefit from longer distances, but connections for now are sticking to the mile. Ground could be a little on the fast side for him, but should be involved at the business end of proceedings.
