Race 1 (3:40pm) ALPHA MALE

Only career win did come in this very race three years ago, when 30 lengths clear and also placed second in the 2019 edition, but has had relatively little success since, barring a couple of places in a Hunter Chase at Down Royal (2m 3f, yielding), including last months run, when in excess of 20 lengths adrift. Disappointing run last time can be forgiven and with previous history in this contest, look capable of getting involved once again.

Race 2 (4:15pm) DOSTAL PHIL

Phillip Hobbs runner, who has three wins and four places in eleven starts, including a Novice Chase win at Newbury (2m, heavy) back in January. Has since placed 323, with the last of those coming at Aintree (1m 7f, good to soft), in the Red Rum Chase, when 2.75 lengths behind Editeur Du Gite. Drops a pound today, while Simon Torrens claims a further 3lbs. Looks to be a straight fight with Asterion Forlonge for the spoils.

Race 3 (4:50pm) SCARLET AND DOVE

Joseph O’Brien trained runner, who has five victories in eleven runs, including when sealing a double in her penultimate start at Limerick (2m 6f, heavy) in a Grade 2 contest last month. Placed fifth in latest at Fairyhouse and jumped poorly that day, but can improve in this handicap contest. Jordan Gainford claims 7lbs this afternoon.n.

Race 4 (5:25pm) EPATANTE

Won four on the bounce, up to November’s win at Newcastle (2m good) in the Fighting Fifth, when 4.25 lengths ahead of Sceau Royal. Has since placed second in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day and third in the Champion Hurdle, behind Honeysuckle, who opposes once again. Difficult to see her taking the spoils here, but will no doubt feature.

Race 5 (6:00pm) ASHDALE BOB

Three wins in eight starts, including last time out at Fairyhouse (2m 4f, yielding) in a Grade 2 contest, earlier this month, when beating Decimation by a neck. Rise in class is a tough ask, but with Bob Olinger’s absence, he has a chance against Gaillard Du Mesnil this evening.

Race 6 (6:35pm) BOB AND CO

Four wins in six runs, failing to finish in the other two contests. Looked decent prior to unseating his rider in the St James’s Place at the Cheltenham Festival last month, but looked healthy and fine, when taking an easy win at Hexham (3m, good) last time out, when decimating the field by some 40 lengths. David Maxwell remains onboard and claims 5lbs, with Paul Nicholls’s runner offering a genuine challenge to Billaway.
