Race 1 (1:40pm) ILLUSIONIST
Only career win came thirteen starts ago at Bath (5f, good to firm) almost two years ago. However despite some up and down form, tends go well at York, placing twice in three starts, including the last of those visits in October (5f, soft), when third behind Muscika. Should strip fitter from the reappearance last month and capable of featuring.
Race 2 (2:10pm) SILENCE PLEASE
Opened career with three wins, but has found it tougher as the competition improves, placing third in the Naas Oaks Trial (1m 2f, yielding to soft) back in July of last year, before finishing second in a Group 3 contest at Leopardstown (1m 4f, good), 4 lengths behind Tiger Moth in September. Open to more improvement and looks to offer a big threat to favourite, Queen Power.
Race 3 (2:40pm) BRUNCH
Four wins in ten starts, including a double here last Summer (both 7f, good and good to firm). Has placed three times since then, with the latest at Doncaster (1m, good) on seasonal return back in March, when 1.5 lengths behind Haqeeqy in the Lincoln. Handles soft, good to soft ground, so won’t mind today’s conditions and overall looks to have a huge chance.
Race 4 (3:10pm) HURRICANE LANE
Winner of both career starts so far, including a Class 3 contest at Newbury last month, on seasonal return, beating Maximal by a length. This is a tough test but Charlie Appleby’s runner can go close and should at very least feature in the places.
Race 5 (3:40pm) WINTER POWER
Four wins in nine career starts, sealing a double last time out at Newmarket (5f, soft) in the Group 3 – Cornwallis Stakes, when an impressive 3 lengths clear of the favourite, Method. Now fitted with a tongue-tie and has won on faster ground, so likely to feature and push Acklam Express and Dexter Belle for the spoils.
Race 6 (4:15pm) RIZG
No Way Never colt, out of Azenzar and a half-brother to 1m winner, Establish. Dam, a winner over 7f is a half-sister to Alexander Goldrun, herself a Group winner. Roger Varian has a 29% strike-rate with 2-yo at this venue over the last five seasons and has a genuine chance.
