Today’ Trifecta Bet Of The Day
Today’s Exotic is a Combination Trifecta bet for the 3:40pm Newmarket, the Group 1 – Qipco 2000 Guineas.
This year’s edition is as competitive as ever and maybe to some surprise, we are steering away from favourite, Wembley. Aidan O’Brien’s charge picked up his only win at Roscommon last August, while his second in the Dewhurst in October offers plenty of encouragement for many, but that was on soft ground and its this that offers a small doubt in the mind.
The first selection is Thunder Moon, who finished behind Wembley in the aforementioned Dewhurst Stakes, but prior to that, he had got the better of him at Curragh (7f) in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes on Good ground, finishing 1.5 lengths clear. The extra furlong and favourable ground should give him the optimum chance here.
Next up is Battleground, who was runner-up in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf in his last run back in November at Keeneland. He won the listed Chesham Stakes at Ascot (7f, soft), prior to the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood (7f, good) last Summer and looks have strong hopes, assuming his is sharp enough.
The final member of the trio is Master Of The Seas, who has been picked ahead of One Ruler by WIlliam Buick for Saturday’s ride. He added the Group 3 – Craven Stakes over C&D to his previous Group 2 – Superlative Stakes win last year, finishing 0.75 lengths ahead of La Barrosa. He looks in fine form and will have that extra bit of sharpness that could make the difference.
Despite the concerns over Wembley’s abilities on firmer ground, he could still be a thorn in the side of the above selections, while Mutasaabeq, One Ruler and Van Gogh have to be respected in what is expected to be a thrilling contest.
