ELLIOT THE DRAGON (stall 3 of 11) didn’t show a huge amount at Southwell on his handicap debut last month but took a big step forward when fourth at Wolverhampton on his latest outing where he was beaten by a little over one length into fourth. He fared best of the hold-up horses that day, clocked a good time in the process and can be backed to go two places better from good draw in the 5f CCR Supporting Mid-Essex Macmillan GP’s Handicap at Chelmsford this afternoon (5.35).
LIGHTNING CHARLIE was only ninth of 15 at Ascot last time but was drawn away from the main action in stall 3 (first three drawn 16, 13 and 15) an can be backed to return to winning ways in the 6f Dave & Anita Cornish Wedding Celebration Handicap at Windsor (5.55). The Amanda Perrett-trained six-year-old did really to get within five lengths of Ice Age after being given too much to do in a Class 2 handicap on his latest course outing and his yard is in really good form.
In the same race, I’m also going to back MULLIONHEIR, who was a place ahead of Lightning Charlie when also poorly drawn at Ascot last time. This smaller field will suit, as his handicap record in fields of 11 or fewer runners since gelded reads 111311491 (6-9).
Selections
Elliot The Dragon – Chelmsford 5.35 (2pts win, 9-2)
Lightning Charlie – Windsor 5.55 (1pt each-way, 20-1)
Mullionheir – Windsor 5.55 (1pt each-way, 10-1)
